Crosby is still better than McDavid change my mind

Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2020
Published: Jun. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The only thing McDavid has on Sid is speed and what he can do with it.

Sid has the edgework, the work ethic, the puck protection (try getting the puck from him, I wish you luck), the clutchiness, the passing, the release, the intelligence, the defense awareness...

Mcdavid has more skill but if I'm going into the playoffs I would still rather have Crosby on my team than McDavid.

I think the gap in point production is just too great. Especially since McDavid is still so young and will only grow.
Also I’m not sure why you included work ethic.

Oh this is so hard. I really, really, really like Crosby. But Mcdavid might have the edge now. Crosby is slowing down a bit. He's not the hart trophy player he used to be 3-4 years ago. He's still top 3 easy, but not sure about 1. But all-time, Crosby blows Mc away. Not even close.

McDavid is better, have you seen his speed, and what he can do?? He is amazing at that kind of things. I think the only thing Crosby might have on McDavid is his defensive ability. Either then that in my opinion McDavid is the best player in the NHL! McDavid is an amazing passer, can really set up plays, he flys down the ice, his shot is pretty good. He also works well with a lot of the players that he has played with.

Sid isn't slowing down man hahahah we could have that conversation but in 2-3 years at least. He always seems to find new ways to do it

This is like when Sid was in his early 20s and people said Datsyuk was better

I mean, if some people thought Ovi was/is better than Sid it's possible.

I saw a few. Guarantee more than a few Blackhawks fans said Toews was better for the same reasons

Well the pens are slowing down anyway. They used to be the top team by far, but now they would be top 5 probs.

I agree. Me and my Brother always like to debate Sid vs Ovi. I think Sid, and he thinks Ovi. But we both know they are very close. Both top 10 players of all time.

I really don't see how any argument can be made about Ovi. And no he isn't top ten of all time, top 20 yes tho.

Remove Backstrom and you'd have to remove at least 50 goals from OVI's current totals, maybe even close to 100

My problem with McDavid is his game is so one dimentional.
He's not very good at faceoffs, he's never really gown his defensive game, and I've never really seen his offensive game "grow".

it's the same pony show now as it always has been.
Yeah he's fast no doubt, but the whole league is getting faster catching up to him. And the real question is how does his game fair out when he starts to drop a step or two. Does anyone go a slowing McDavid is still a hands down great player?
Crosby on the other hand was never a great player because of speed, it was always his hand eye co-ordination and his insight into the game.

I think McDavid is definitely the guy you want if you want 100 points out of your guy. But I personally don't view him as the best younger player in the league.
There isn't that much separating MacKinnon, Matthews and McDavid for hm.
I think out of the 3 of those guys, Matthews has shown the most growth as a player and the guy who probably continues to improve.
If I had to pick out the three of them I would take Matthews currently.
I don't care that much about McDavids speed. You can game plan that and take it away. He's also going to lose steps, but will his defense ever improve when he does? Will he ever be good at taking a faceoff? Will he ever be a better player playing below the goal line when the puck is already in the O zone.
Yeah he's great on the rush we'be seen that for years, but where is the growth?

Bro, Ovi has over 700 goals and he's only 34. He's going to end his career top 3 all time in goals. Sid is more of an assister and all around player, and better player overall. But I don't think it's crazy to suggest Ovi might be better. I would say top 10 all time.

You took the words out of my mouth. Crosby has done it all and you definitely want Crosby heading into the playoffs.

Wayne Gretzky said in his autobiography we didn't know how to win in the finals until they lost in the finals.

That's a good point. Mcdavid has not really stepped it up since his second season. If he doesn't step it up, he's not going anywhere in the Goat convo.

Correct, that's amazing, But just look for a second at what I wrote above... edgework, work ethic, defensive awareness, puck protection, clutchiness... OVI is miles below Sid on all of those

I said I do agree Sid is better. But when people remember Ovi vs Sid, they will at the point and goal totals, both of which Ovi is better. Of coarse those aren't evrything, but they are close.

Easy to have more pts when you're actually playing. Also Sid is only 15 pts below Ovi in 168 less games played...

One guy has played longer. Not saying that's everything but Sid has 10 years on McDavid and any discussion is going to be skewed towards Sid.
