Ottawa would be better off running out the Clock with Ryan imo.

What would interest you enough to take Johnson/Bjugstad for him

I like it because it removes the third year of term and just combines all the salary into two years when only have one resigning but removing the third year gives extra flexibility when several contracts need extensions. For pens I think it’s a smart gamble. Ottawa gains Quantity to fill out roster half cap hit is only for a year. If either player bounces back could be sold as rentals later.

After the first year it saves Ottawa money, which Melnyk loves. Johnson is an upgrade on their third pair. Other two guys could rebound and be flipped for picks easily. Also gives them an extra expansion slot. For the Pens the cup window is realistically two years.

It would have to be enough for it to not make sense for Pittsburgh. It's a really tough sell for me to get on board with taking a long term cap dump when it's a defenseman. There are just way fewer spots available for Dmen. Plus I don't think I could stomach Jack Johnson and Nikita Zaitsev on the same team for 3 years.

I think there's more likely a deal around Bjugstad+Hornqvist that makes more for Ottawa.

I think it’s a smart deal well thought out.

Johnson's buyout isn't that bad, but I understand. Don't see us moving Hornqvist, think he might end up as an expansion sacrifice. What would a package of pure futures look like with Bjugstad/Johnson attached for Ryan? A 2nd and B prospect or would you need more?

I’m not sure you’d get much futures out of that I think it just financially fitting for both teams.

Johnson plays better D than Ryan plays F and at half the cap. Bjugstad, when not out due to surgery, plays better F than Ryan plays F.

Ottawa is getting the three best players while dumping the worst contract. Literally 0-4 for Pittsburgh in that trade.

Take off your Johnson hating glasses, you are making the team worse. Plus, the coaches actually like Johnson, he does what he is supposed to.

Johnson has term that Ottawa doesn’t want with many prospects coming up. Bjudstad’s cost is above his cap - which is the opposite of almost every deal Ottawa has had in the last couple years. Ottawa doesn’t mind moving Ryan but not to pay more no matter the timeline.

Quite simply they are managing by bottom line not outcomes and will be until there is a significant change.

Dont see wings giving up 2 2nds..for injury plagued goalie...one of those picks woukd be conditional on games played etc to protect ourselves..or one the picks instead of 2nd becomes 4th or further back...or wings may do ur framework deal for JARRY

The rebuilding Red Wings are for sure not giving up a 2nd, let alone 2 2nd's for an oft injured goalie looking to get paid who really does nothing for them as they'd still be a bottom 5 team

Draft picks are way overvalued on this site
