Plenty of cheap veteran backup G will be available through free agency. No team, especially the Flyers are going to give you a 2nd round pick for one if with the fluff you added

I think that Bozak maneuver with STL would be considered cap circumvention and the league would nix the trade(s). The Lehner trade near the deadline was the same type of concept where a team acquired his rights in order to retain salary and pass him on, but he then went on to a 3rd team and not back to the original one.

Buffalo has more or less 1.5 lines, don't they?

I mean who else is there after Eichel, Reinhart, Olofsson, Johansson and Skinner (let us assume that was a down year). Other than that, there is nothing crazy. and for that cap hit, it would be a good deal

I think you are probably right, but I think it is a bit stupid. But in the end I think the Leafs picked up 1.1 million of his cap, didn't they?

Something like that, I just remember a 3rd team retained before he landed in Vegas. That type of deal seems a bit dodgy to me too tbh.

The Blues are not retaining on Bozak, and if they did they could get a pretty decent return

I would call it creative smile Isn't this the whole idea of being able to retain salary?

Dallas refuse. Only one year left on Cogliano's contract. If they want to get rid of him, they will probably just buy out his contract or trade him with retention. We are so thin in draft picks that it does not make sense to lose some on a Cogliano deal.

I see, that would probably get shot down by the league though.

3 years is too much for Galchenyuk, go 1 year only.
And 1 million is far too low for Soucy.

I think Koivu is retiring.

He probably will. But it would be nice to have him around for one more year.

The Leafs did retain a bit of Lehner's salary. There was another similar deal a few years back where the Pens acquired Brassard from Ottawa with Vegas being the middle team retaining salary to knock $2m off his cap hit for the Pens. The league seems ok with that if 3 teams are involved, but would probably say no if it was just 2 teams trading a player back and forth even if it's pretty much the same thing if we're being honest here.

agree. a weird and probably also stupid thing that they approve a 3rd team eating cap

P beat me to it. The value is fair, but I’d rather buy him out or let him be the healthy scratch next year. It would make sense if we could use that cap you’re saving us but we need it for Miro’s extension the following year. So having him and Comeau around next year is like having 5.65 million in our back pocket for Miro. Kiviranta and Caamano are pretty much younger, faster, cheaper versions of them so hopefully they’ll get to play eventually so they can get that experience coaches and GMs cheese over
