Sorry we don't want to give you a top line forward for one of your spare goalies. Chicago also doesn't touch this trade as is, I think you know that.

No, the trade is for Saad.

And then you trade us DeBrincat for Nurse... you guys could honestly benefit with Nurse, and if you get Lafreniere he could replace DeBrincat and then you don’t have to scratch Nylander. If you get Nurse you could either get rid of De Haan or play him on the 3rd pairing with Nurse on the 2nd to get the D core better.

Hawks will not trade Cat for Nurse. If EDM wants to add to that deal then maybe, but only if we get Laf

Agreed on only if you get Lafreniere. We may have to add a bit but not much.

Debrincat scored 41 goals last year and is cost controlled for 5 more years. Nurse is good, but we probably can't afford to pay him 2 years + he will be a UFA. I just don't see nurse being worth a 22 year old 40 goal scorer

The reason Nylander is either all over your TV screen or non-existent is because he got played an average of 12 minutes a night, well below average for where he should be playing. The kid is a great playmaker, and has had multiple highlight reel passes and assists to show for it.

He produced very well when he was demoted to the bottom 6 during a couple of his rough patches this year. Here are two highlights from when he was playing with bottom 6 players.

EX

EX

He should definitely be in the Top 9 at the very least. He can play both wings, so bump Shaw down to the 4th line.

a few flashy player here and there does not make a player.
If the coaches thought he was a better player he'd get more than 12 minutes a night. It's not like they don't have ice time for him.

I like the 7 expiring contracts thing.
It fails to realize they have 17 forwards to start with. And since they have 8 defense men, that means they got 4 extra forwards to start with. And a lot of those guys, Marleau, Sheary, Arod. They probably aren't coming back. You basically got McCann, Lafferty, and Simon as their "expiring"contracts at forward. Angello is going back to the AHL, and the rest of them can walk.

I think his ice time, or lack thereof, is more indicitave of the Hawks coaching staff trying to ease him into the NHL and build consistency.

He was still on thirty point pace before the pause, and while that's not spectacular by any means... with his ice time it is somewhat impressive.

If you have The Athletic, I recommend Alex Nylanders entry into the "Next ones" Series. It is an unbiased review of him as a prospect and his comparison to Kyle Turris.

Nylander reminds me of Perlini with how streaky he is. Where else does Nylander fit in the lineup? Caggiula's spot as 3LW? Its hard to have Caggiula's grit/defense/speed on the bench. Nylander doesn't do anything that stands out, he is either all over the tv screen or non-existent and he doesn't get dirty enough to play in the bottom-6 regularly.

Scratch smith bring Caggiula to 4th line put him on 3rd line lw

Whoa whoa whoa, slow down. DeBrincat had one 40 goal season, so you can’t really call him a 40 goal scorer yet, because this year he wasn’t even on pace for 40 goals. He got 18 goals in 70 games, so I think it’s pretty fair lol. If a team wants Nurse they are going to have to give someone that good. You would be able to pay Nurse as well that would open up some money, and you could trade De Haan.

I'm pretty sure if a guy scores 40 goals, even once, he's a 40 goal scorer for the rest of his career.

I wouldn't touch a Debrincat trade unless it was for a similar level/age defenseman.

I'm not sure Nurse is a long term top pairing guy.

Just because you score 40 goals once doesn’t make you a 40 goal scorer!! He had 18 goals in 70 games. He was nowhere close to 40, he isn’t a 40 goal scorer. He may be an 20-30 goal scorer, but if he played with McDavid he would easily be a 40-50 goal scorer.

I’m saying that a Nurse for DeBrincat trade is supper fair if not then we can add Puljujarvi. And DeBrincat isn’t a 40 goal scorer just because of one year, especially that this year he only got 18 goals in 70 games. So to wrap it up DeBrincat isn’t a 40 goal scorer and the trade is 100% fair for both teams.

I would rather keep my 22 year old 40 goal scorer. Most players never do it once, so i'm gonna stick to saying he's a 40 goal scorer

If we trade debrincat its for a top pair defenceman, and i'm not sure Nurse is that. He will be paif like he is one but i'm not convinced he atcually is

He only did it once so far, this year he was nowhere close to 40. He got 18 in 70 games! But sure you can keep telling yourself that. I may agree with you if he does it a couple more times.

(Not speaking of DeBrincat specifically, just a general statement)

When you are grabbing at straws because you have nothing else to hold on to you say things like "He's a 40 goal scorer." As opposed to accurately stating, "He's a 20 goal scorer that managed 40 once." Instead of valuing the guy for what he is you falsely prop him up to something he is not, disrespecting him in the process, because you are reaching to try to make your seem better.

Id love Saad to Pens - especially for that trade... but we couldn't afford that $6m hit. - Maybe we give more for Retaining??
+ we only have 2 Forwards on exp contracts - Sheary & Marleau - and they are both gone
