One Trade Proposal at a Time

Created by: Seider53
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2020
Published: Jul. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rather than putting together a huge number of trade proposals I would like to look at some single moves Detroit could make in isolation, starting from the same base roster, before beginning to look at how this could come together to form a roster. Thoughts from AZ, DET or neutral fans?

Works for me - RH center, UFA after the year so no commitment necessary, and can possibly deal him at the deadline for another pick.

I think you mean "2021 4th conditional on Stepan not breaking 40 points" ... right?

Anyway, it's probably a fair offer.

Not sure what you mean by the conditional 4th but Stepan and Filppula are good stopgap centers for one year while youngsters develop. But I'm not sure that Arizona would have to pay that high a price to get rid of Stepan's cap hit, especially in light of the fact that they don't currently have a 2020 first.

I like but the idea from Det standpoint but I feel AZ is giving too much to unload Step.

I think Stepan is bound for an bounce back year, expecially so if he is traded as I think Arizona's style limited his offensive numbers. I don't think they'll need to pay to get rid of him but he'd be cheap to aqcuire that's for sure but if the above was offered to Detroit, they should absolutely take that and run.

Bit of an overpay. Stepan I do think has slight negative value, but he's not a complete dud. Stepan and a 2nd is way more than enough. The extra 4th is overkill.

I’d say Step and a 2nd for a Det 4th may be closer value

So if Stepan scores fewer than 40 points Detroit recieve the 4th, if he scores 40 or more no pick is exchanged.

Interesting. What is the feeling from AZ fans re. pressure on resigning Hall? I was working with the assumption that management was very keen on the idea, as they met in person, and that as a result they would be willing to make a move like this to open up space.

Yeah Stepan and a 2nd seems like a fair price. Get him and flip him at the deadline

Exactly this just did a mock draft and there is some nice forward talent in the second round this year.

Yeah I definitely think Arizona is keen on re-signing Hall but I wouldn’t be terribly frustrated is they didn’t. Anything more than 8.5-9 million is gonna be a serious problem for us cap wise in the future. But it would also be a bit of a loss to have given up multiple good picks for a good player if he ends up walking. I think your assumption is realistic.

No...wings are only interested if the pick is a 1st rounder for $6.5m cap hit its taking on..& Stepan skills are massive decline last few years. So it's a near pure cap dump. ..1st rd pick or bust...(maybe conditional 1st accepted)

See I'm suggesting this as a bounce back pick because I believe both, he could be a very good 2nd line winger for Zadina, but also could be re-signed below his current cap hit even if he does bounce back.
As this is part of a series of trades there would be maybe a 1st round pick or two, but this isnt NHL20 where we can make 4 trades and get a 1st from each.
If the writing is on the wall that Stepan won't resign, but his play is promising it wouldn't surprise me if he could be flipped with 50% retention for a late 1st next year anyway.
That said, in this year's draft there is a crop of talent between ~20 and ~40 and this trade is on the presumption that Arizona's pick is about ~40-42. That nets us a Ryan O-Rourke, Emil Andrae, Topi Nimela, JJ Peterka, Tyson Foerster etc. I'd do it.
Now maybe Detroit COULD get more, I'm looking for something that both fanbases seem relatively fine with, over multiple moves, to then look at what the end product of making all those moves would be.

Thanks, I'm pretty invested in the wings, but want to keep my offseason hopes grounded, something like this seemed like a good way of doing that while generating some well intentioned debate online. A rarity.

Tyler Bertuzzi gets way more, No way that Fabbri gets almost as much as Bertuzzi. You're easily looking at 5 x $5.5m for Bertuzzi.

I may just be particularly cautious on Bertuzzi, but I could see him moving down the depth chart as prospects come up. I think he's close to his ceiling at the moment if im honest, but that is just my 2 cents.Where he's at is pretty darn good, but i'd rather he came in under 5.
