Those contracts are HIGH and if you make one of those trades, same as with the Leafs at the moment, they HAVE to live up to them or the team is screwed. Teams built by committee are a safer bet, because when one player, or even line is off their game the rest are still good.
The cap has massively affected the trade market as a result.

Kaprizov isn't the issue and why we wouldn't decline this.

Marner is great, but he's also way overpaid. He's also a RW. Not something we need right now. We already have Fiala who looks to be our 1RW of the future. Kaprizov will either be our 1LW, 2LW or 2RW.

What we need is a top six center. Dumba on his own should be enough to get that done. If we're giving up BOTH Dumba and Kaprizov, we had better be getting a damn sure 1C back in the trade. That ain't Marner.

I personally would rather have two stars than 1 superstar. Easier to build a team around two stars.

Tkachuk is a star, Monahan is a depth player and Matthews is super star. He's better than all but 3 players in the game.

Center vs wing yet still the same job, score goals. Look at the goal totals Ovi put up in his first 3 seasons then look at Matthew's.

And? What about now? Matthews is 22 Ovie is 34, Matthews is just better now. Has a huge 2 way game and the best 5v5 goal scorer there is.
