Created by: leafs101
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 11, 2020
Published: Aug. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Matthews, Tavares, Rielly, Hyman, and Muzzin are off the table. Everyone else, make your offers for.

Leafs sign Lehner while they still have Andersen. The other good goalies sign elsewhere. Leafs trade Andersen.

This is a much harder team to play against.

There should 100% be a condition on Patrick. He still has immense potential but is blocked by migraines.

I don't think the flyers would do Sanheim for Nylander 1 for 1.

Nylander is a Swedish JVR 2.0, and Sanheim isn't Luke Schenn.

I like Nylander and all, but yeah, we need Sanheim on D more than we need Nylander.

Further, that trade package is one of the more outrageous I've seen... Top-tier young dman that can play all situations, good young depth player that is an absolute puck hound, and our recent #2 overall pick... then let us throw in a First and Second to boot. We aren't your farm team.

I mean Patrick is worth no more than a 3rd rounder, calling him your recent #2 pick makes him sound a lot better than he is. But yes, I think it was a bit much looking back. I'd remove the 1st round pick

Nylander is very different from JVR.

Nylander, like JVR, scores many goals from the front of the net, but also scores from other areas often. Also is a much better skater, one of the best at offensive zone entries, much better playmaker, and is much younger.

Also tough to compare those trades because the Schenn trade was like one of the worst Flyer trades ever lol

If Saros can't handle the starter job they might want him

Patrick is worth a 3rd? Cool... We will keep him then. Make the sub and remove the 1st so its Nylander for Sanheim, NAK, a 2nd, and 3rd. We are still not in the same ballpark.

I think the issue is your position of need and strength matches ours. We both need good young dmen and we both have pretty effective forwards.

he'll be expensive - and I see no scenario where Rinne is traded unless he requests a trade.

I think Brown has elevated his value enough to warrant a 1st + a prospect from a contender at this point. Pageau and Coleman just got traded for a 1st + at this deadline, and Brown is younger and arguably better than both of them. The precedent is there, so I don't think that package is enough to pry him back. Sens can likely get a better return elsewhere, or they'll just keep him.

Coleman and Pageau both play center, which is more valuable

Fair, and that's a good point. But Brown also has RFA control whereas Pageau was an expiring UFA that then commanded a ridiculous contract, and Coleman will be in the same position after his expires. Pageau received a 1st, 2nd, and conditional 3rd, and Coleman got a 1st and Nolan Foote (who's pretty good). Even if you drop the extra stuff because they're more valuable as centers, Brown is still going to be worth a 1st given the market. Which is ultimately what the Sens would be after. They already have too many prospects that can be had with 2nd round picks; they need high end players that can be more frequently had in the 1st.
