no room when Marner is not moved

Created by: Gordon_Bombay
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2020
Published: Aug. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is just no cap room to do anything.

This would just be a huge bet on Lehtonen. Him or Holl are not first paing Ds, but this is what they can do with no money. I would still prefer to move Marner, but if this not not going to happen, there is not much they can do

I think there is other ways to free up cap space and I am hearing Anderson is going to be moved out for cheaper cap goalie and then the cap saved and maybe a middle cap forward used to acquire another quality defenseman. If necessary, Nylander will have to go.

I think the exit interviews made it clear that Dubas has no intention of moving Nylander or Marner. I doubt he does anything to be honest

Name me a better goalie than Andersen that they can get on a cheaper deal without giving up much?

People forget that Andersen is playing behind a team with no structure. He lets in bad goals once in a while, but he saves clear goals on a higher rate. Freddie is by far the best Leafs goalie in the last 20 years.

Giving up Nylander would be the dumbest thing Dubas can do, he is a great goal scorer, he is on a good contract. Start with moving Marner

Seems like a bad move trading Dermot without getting any Dman in return. Leafs are razor thin on defence and it's a big hope than that Lehoten, Sandin and Liljegren can all play top 6 minutes. And if there was injury to Muzzin, Reilly or Holl...no replacement.
Most NHL trades....especially for a cap heavy forward means a lot of cap is coming back in a trade. Does the equal cap swap make the Leafs or the other team better?

It is not just a first rounder, it is one at the end of the first round. Vancouver can go quite far in the postseason.

I just don't know where Dermott should fit in. He is not as good as Rielly and Muzzin. He is better right now than Sandin, but way more expensive which they cannot afford. He looked quite solid on the left, not so much on the right and I still think he has value.

New Jersey does not have any cap issues

Agree, if Toronto wants to trade, they are going to have to overpay. Teams don't have room for high cap players and don't have depth for RHD. They could maybe break even and do a one for one for Doughty or something. Same cap hit, helps LA with the rebuild and Doughty brings a lot of playoff experience.

You're right about Jersey not having cap issues. But so many cap strapped teams need to get rid of their "Johnsson's". You've given Jersey two NHLers with a cap of about 5m. Jersey can probably find 5m value elsewhere, maybe even as UFA and certainly not trade a first rounder. To put Bracco in any NHL trade....just meaningless.

Doughty is kind of a washed up cry baby. I used to like him, but when the started to cry about Tkachuk he lost all the respect I had for him. Don't think the Leafs need a guy like that.

New Jersey has absolutley no cap issue and so do other teams. Look at Detroit, their issue is not the cap, their issue is that half of their roster is not good enough to play in the NHL

Sick. I think i just said a first rounder. It’s a first rounder, right?

That pile of junk doesn’t get you a first rounder.

Johnsson is actually quite a solid player. He can easily play in the top 6 of New Jersey and is also not old yet. Dermott on the other hand is also still young and can be a top 4 in New Jersey. Their left side is poor, and the right side is not much better, as they have Severson as a top 4 and Subban as a top 6 who is payed 9 a year

Bracco is worth a change of scenery AHLer. Johnsson might get you a 3rd and Dermott might get you a 2nd. You're not getting a 1st, even if it's late.

Your right, new jersey doesn't have cap space, so why trade a 1st rounder when they can pick up 3rd/2nd line players in free agency. Your also right about the wings players, half of them wouldn't make an AHL team....LOL

Bracco is nothing. Dermott is meh. Johnsson seems to be dumped in every single leafs ACGM for a 3rd. Seems like you’ve got a 2nd round picks worth of value here.

I agree that Bracco does not really have any value, but I think Dermott and Johnsson should both get you a 2nd round pick. I think in general, people here overvalue picks higher than the top 15- top 20.

There is always the chance of being lucky, but on average, those kind of picks are not going to produce. Most of the guys drafted at the end of the first round are 3-4 years away from even playing in the NHL and another 2-3 years away from making an impact. Many of them also never make an impact.

You know what else is overrated on this site? 3rd line wingers coming off of a season they were injured in and bottom pair defensemen.
