Description

If the Flames want to try and get any kind of return for Gaudreau, the time to move him is now.
It's either gotta be on draft day or at the latest by next years trade deadline. Once his M-NTC kicks in the return value drops off a cliff because he can choose which 5 teams he would be willing to go to.

The buffalo trade is a weird one. Rittich and Ullmark are similar age, Jankowski is coming off his worst season. Ullmark’s next contract will be to see him as a starting goaltender. Cam Talbot is bipolar as a starter, decent in game one, terrible in game two, great in game three. He’s not a long-term starter, and if Buffalo accepted this trade you’re paying Ullmark heck of a lot more than that.

Wouldn’t make much sense to trade for a Worse goalie who costs more... would it?
I doubt an ok 4th liner moves the needle to convince us

There are like 3 teams in the league that can offer him 10M or more, none of them are cup competitors. Hall has made it very clear his priorities are he wants to compete for the cup and he doesn't want to go through free agency again for a long time.

I completely understand when people say this, about any upcoming UFA, but let's be realistic for a moment.
With the cap being flat for anywhere from 2-4 years (as reported) exactly which teams are going to give any player 10M long term?
It's going to be a very lean time for this group of UFAs as they may have no choice but to take a little less and maybe go after longer term.

And just a side not for anyone who may read this.......I am NOT a fan of Gaudreau and want to see him moved. Sooner the better.
He's walking away in 2 years and the Flames risk getting NOTHING, so move him now and at least get something.
