No. This year isn’t an issue for me because all of last years moves had him cleaning up the mess Lou left him

You can certainly do a lot worse with GM's. Take it from a fan who saw Fenton trade Nino for Rask, Coyle for Donato and a very late pick, and while Fiala for Granlund looks like a home run trade for us, at the time Granny was a 2-time 60+ point winger and Fiala had not had a single season scoring more than 48 points and was coming off a major leg injury. Oh and he signed Zuccarello to a $30M deal over 5 years and gave him a NMC. Toronto fans of all fan bases should know it could be a lot worse.

Dubas managed to keep 3 supremely talented forwards and signed a #1 center in free agency which almost never happens in the NHL. Does he have more work to do? Certainly, but he's not as bad of a GM as some fans on here make him out to be.

Yep, thanks to Lou signing Marleau to that contract we lost the 13th OA pick which we could have used to draft Braden Schneider. What else could Dubas have do nobody would have taken that contract unless a 1st was involved.

Always thought he was overrated by leaf fans. Wat has he really done to make the team better. The defense is a train wreck and can’t get past first round.

Dubas in general has only been gm for 3 years and while one of his trades (kadri) wasnt that great due to Babcocks interference he has done alot of good for this team. His FA signings and ability to grab overseas talent is amazing. His ability to find steals in later rounds of the draft (Robertson) is solid. Only other issue is his contracts of Matthews and Marner being bad. But he has improved as shown with the engvall and holl contracts.

I say give him a year or two and now that he knows the issue he should make moves to help improve our blue line or just help our team in general become more defensive without sacrificing to much of the offense.

He needs to go. He's made the team worse since he's been in charge.

Good things about Dubas: He's done a good job drafting and signing UFAs.

Bad things about Dubas: Contract negotiation skills (probably the worst GM in the league) and his stubbornness to pay 4 players half the team's salary.

His decision making is also very bad. We all knew the Leafs weren't gonna win the cup as assembled but when he had the chance to trade for DeMelo he didn't (even though it only costed a 3rd round pick). So he didn't try to improve the team... but then when offered Stetcher and Vancouver's 2nd round pick for Barrie he didn't even consider the deal or try to negotiate. He was unwilling to accept that he had overpaid for Barrie...

GMs that can't adapt don't last very long in the NHL. I do not trust Kyle Dubas to bring home the cup.

For that reason I think he should be fired.

Johnny t was always going to sign with hometown. Dubas wasn’t a factor. He messed up big time not signing nylander and especially marner year earlier. He could of saved a lot of money. Before marner and Matthews signed he had millions and cap and still didn’t fix defense.

He's not the worst GM but I don't think he's good enough to win a cup. True he got Tavares but the other 3 forwards were already in the system and he managed to mess up in the contract negotiations for all of them.

We need a GM like Masai Ujiri and that isn't Dubas.

I'd let him do the draft and then fire him.

Don't worry too much about that pick. Theres this kid in the second round named Helge Grans. I'd be very dissapointed if the leafs skip on him

That one, dispite being the worst trade he’s done, wasn’t his fault. But I still think he overpaid the big 4. Not to mention the Kadri trade.

I wouldn’t let him sign another player to a long term contract.

Kadri had to go. He got his ass suspended twice in the playoffs costing us against boston. I guarantee if he was still here he would have got his ass suspended again against columbus. If it wasnt for Babcock nobody would have been complaining as Barrie would have had around 45-50 points if keefe was head coach from the start.

Plus he didnt overpay the big 4 by much. Nylander almost had 40 goals and is being paid 6.9 mill thats a steal now. Marner was overpaid by 1 mill big deal he had 94 points before the contract offer him 7 and he was gone which people would then demand dubas be fired anyways. Matthews contract just needed 3 more years and it would have been fine. Tavares was gonna get paid no matter what team to. In general 3 of the big 4 are young and are only going to get better which is what Dubas is banking on which as we saw with the capitals is a slow process but it works.

So these arguments are just silly at this point as Dubas has been an alright GM and better than some who are still in the league.

He has his good qualities. I agree he’s a moderate GM. Just trying to get people going to be honest haha.
