Take away the third and the Ducks accept.

It's not realistic to leave no capspace for a call-up. If someone misses a game for a blocked shot or the flu, Leafs don't have the capspace to call-up a replacement.

They have done it throughout the regular season all the time. There are plenty of loopholes that they'll be able to get away with.

Ef that. The 2021 draft is going to be a crapshoot, and getting a mid-six winger and late 2nd doesn't help anything.

Leafs probably don't, though. They'd be giving up more value in the trade and with the looming expansion draft, this move (assuming other significant moves are not made) would put them in a position where they would have to lose one of their top 4 Dmen next year, bringing them right back to where they are now. Either that or pay additional assets to keep them.

They can use emergency call ups from the minors to work around the cap in that situation. They did all this season. It's still doable

Ducks aren’t giving up their best RHD and pick for Kapanen

And that's fine. Just like it's fine that the Leafs don't overpay for a slightly above average (maybe - is in my opinion, but many would argue otherwise) Dman that would put them in a tight spot for the expansion draft.

I really doubt they want to do it with a 20 man roster. Leafs carried at least 22 man roster for majority of the season. As we saw this year injuries happen. Teams avoid going with 20 man rosters for a reason.

Anaheim isn't trading the 67th overall pick in this draft as part of this deal and getting what might be a pick in the high 50's one year from now. I'd accept Toronto's 50th overall in this draft for the 2020 third, but rather than screw around over what the respective draft picks should be, why not make it Kapanen for Manson plus the retention?

Here's an idea, everyone needs to just relax lol. This is all hypothetical to address their cap issues as well as desire for a top-4 defenseman. There are only a handful of realistic options to grab a top-4 and they all include trading a winger to have the necessary space to do so. To me, it's either Manson or someone like Damon Severson.

I don't agree with that at all.
