Do you mean to be competitive immediately or to your rebuild? Because if you want to be competitive immediately I'd say you need a true 1C, a top line winger (Gallagher, Tatar, Domi, and Drouin are all 50-60 point wingers, you need a 1C and a 1LW or 1RW that'll put up over a point per game, preferably one of them being a sniper), and a puck-moving, offensive 2LD couldn't hurt, everyone knows offense from the back end is coming from the right, either Weber or Petry. Mixing it up a bit and adding another threat back there would be helpful. Maybe need a 2C as well, I don't know if the rookies are there yet (although they certainly have been impressive this post-season so maybe Suzuki is) and Danault would be an ideal 3C.

As for what they should do, probably just wait for Suzuki/Kotkaniemi to be the top six centres they need, and Caufield to be that top line sniper hopefully. Probably won't get there for a year or two but it's better than panicking. Maybe package two of their top six wingers that I mentioned earlier for a better top six winger to open room for Caufield and improve the top six. Hopefully Romanov is the 2LD you need. The only other thing would be get a less expensive bottom six lol

Asking other teams fan bases what your weaknesses are isn't really a great idea. Especially when you say Knowledge. Everyone believes they are knowledgeable, and everyone in their own way is right. If you want a true sense of where our weaknesses are look to the advanced shot matrices. They will show you which side of the ice the majority of shots against price are coming from and where the majority of our goals are coming from. We have lost the most 1 goal games this season (22 compared to the next closest which if I remember right was 11). That is a significant amount of points left on the board which suggests that there is a flaw in the defense. I do not have the stats in front of me but my guess is that the stats show the left side in the slot to the front of the net are where the majority of our goals against are coming from. Which means we need to shore up that side. The goals for probably come from our centers or left wingers with the exception of Gallagher. You can tell this just by looking at the player stats on NHL.com the majority of our RW's ie Armia, Weal, Evans, Hudon, Weise, Lehkonen, Gallagher and Byron have less than 15 goals which suggests that there is serious lack of scoring from that side of the formation. So a top 6 scoring winger is a major need. Then look at our backups numbers and how many games Cary was forced to play and you can see a backup is a major need. Those are our weaknesses.

Probably a top 6 RW, and a top pairing RHD prospect. While Habs prospects/ young players get better, Weber will only get worse. They should try and draft a RHD this draft since thats their weakest link in terms of prospects. They don’t have a single quality RHD prospect and No, juulson isn’t quality anymore

Still have no idea if Montreal is still building or trying to compete. If they're building still, trade Tatar (probably get a first rounder back) and probably Petry (1st+ for him imo). IF they want to compete next year, they could go after Hall and/or get extensions done for Danault, Gallagher and Armia.

Honestly, they probably shouldn't do too much. Maybe add a winger that can play better 5v5 than Drouin, may get more utility out of him in a lesser role, too. Moving him for a decent young D may be better though. The growth of Suzuki and Kotkaniemi will likely make MTL much more dangerous next season, especially in Suzuki's case. I would argue Montreal was a bit better than their their record suggested this season, and would caution against anything too reactionary.

Not a bad take but Petry is staying 100 %

he looked good at the WJC and he was good in juniors but he really struggled in the AHL this year. That being said, even if brook pans out, he still isnt gonna be a weber replacement.

Seriously question keeping Domi -- at no point did he prove he can be as effective at wing?

I’d rather keep Domi than Tatar tbh. He’s younger and he could definitely rebound after a poor year.

I know! That's the other side of the coin and I can't decide how I feel about it!

...Or maybe lose both for Hall smirk
