I don’t think you’ll get out of Varlamovs contract that easy.

what do you mean get out of it, Varly has been good for the Islanders 0.914 in the regular season, 0.941 in the playoffs.
Its a solid value contract for an above league average starting goalie

I'd argue that he's able to play well because of Trotz's defensive structure. Plus he's more league average than above league average

0.915 is usually year to year league average, but there was some terrible terrible starts this year...semantics sure

But varly is a career 0.915 goalie....its time for people to respect him as a solid NHL starter regardless of systems teams etc. He has been good his whole career

He's fine, but I don't want to pay $5m for 2 extra years of "fine"

seeing that NYI wont be able to make half those moves and most of the RFAs get more than that, I worry very little that he is offer sheeted by NYIs.

You can win with fine, and at 5m...or you can be dumb like the Panthers and sign Bob to 10m who had the exact same stats as Varly the previously 2 seasons before they went into UFA
or someone will be dumb and pay Murray his 6m-8m asking price after a sub .900 season bc he won some cups a couple years ago but hasnt been that level of goalie for some time.

5m for consistent steady goaltending....thats good value. Im sure 100 edmonton fans out of a 100 would say they would take varly at 5m than Koskinen at 4.5m who is a rollercoaster ride of bad to average

I’d consider it if the Avs added, but I think Wilde will be used to dump a contract this offseason

Jost > Bellows

Disagree on this....I'd take Bellows here. 22 goals in 52 games as part of the AHL's worst offense. Good time to buy.

Genuinely curious which of these moves you think the isles can’t make cause outside of dumping Leo and needing to add a tiny bit more for Jost idk what you’d thought process is

Fair enough, thats your opinon on the proposal. I dont see a Jost trade happening if Bellows is the centrepiece.

I’ve had kings fans say that’s a fair trade. They need a stopgap D to play w Doughty. Leddy is perfect for that role for them

May not be a fit, unless u like Aho lol. It’s a real bummer tho cuz I think Jost would b great on the isles

I would rather have bellows and a pick over Aho. Avs will be in a contract count crunch soon and having a guy just kick around in the AHL/maybe 7th dman isnt that tempting

I see your point, but this is also assuming Crawford either retires or goes elsewhere. He's stated he wants to stay in Chicago and is willing to take a discount to make it work, so the Hawks would realistically be able to keep a better goalie, albeit one who is more injury prone, at a more modest cap hit.
