Why would Buffalo not consider Bjugstad for 3C for free (is a UFA) for moving up in the draft this year?

Also, Minnesota is getting a good prospect, a pick, a starting goalie, a young LD for a 33 year old backup and Greg Pateryn

Good luck. It's a terrible contract that is going to cost the Pens a ton to move. They also won't use a buyout because they have to cut payroll. One of the worst moves by GMJR

That + would probably have to be a ton. Goligoski is still a solid d man

I'd say 2 points in 13 games, back surgery and 4.1 mil cap does not equal free.

Once again, McCann can move him. Look at Zaitsev / brown deal

Differences:
-Pandemic (flat cap) makes teams more hesitant to take on heavy cap hits.
-Zaitsev is younger and arguably a better player than Johnson.
-You would need to find a trade partner in this situation that is willing to take Johnson just to hit the cap floor. (there aren't any)

Also, you are way overvaluing McCann. He is barely a top 6 forward

I think the move would depend solely on Bjugstad recovering. If he can't, the Pens would LTIR him as his salary is paid by insurance

And the yotes need cap space, especially if they want to keep hall/sign someone in his place to keep the better draft pick, try simon

Very interesting. Honestly, I'd love to get goligoski back. He'd be a massive upgrade

Zaitsev probably is better than JJ but his contract is worse (more AAV and more term)

Also, at the time of the trade, McCann was better than brown. McCann + Johnson makes sense. The Zaitsev trade worked out for Ottawa pretty well. Other teams would be intrigued with McCann + Johnson

MN is also taking on $5m+ in cap. Riikola isn't young (27 this Nov) and is waiver fodder. Stalock = Murray (neither is someone I want for a starter or even a 1B), plus Stalock is cheaper and MN has to expose either Murray or goalie KK in the expansion draft next year with this trade.

MN has PIT's unprotected 1st next year. Helping them out with their cap should be the last thing they do. The worse PIT is the better it is for MN.

As a Pens fan, I pray you are right. Johnson moving is addition by subtraction.

Does this really help them tho?
They're losing a 1B in net, Pateryn is a slight upgrade at RD. They are losing a good prospect, another pick and their only servicable LD in the system with Riikola.
The Pens can't spend the extra cap either due to the cut in payroll

I think there's 2 reasons that won't happen.
1) GMJR does not want to admit he made a mistake with JJ
2) The team would be hesitant in paying for a buyout during a pandemic with a flat cap and revenues at stake

Pit can replace Murray in-house for cheaper than Murray will be with DeSmith.
Riikola has a cool name, but he has no value to MN.
JJ is a cap dump with a $2m+ net gain for PIT, plus they upgrade slightly with better d-man in Pateryn.
The prospect MN would have wanted PIT just sent to TOR (awful trade). MN has equal or better FWD prospects already in their system compared to Légaré.

This is bad business taking on $5m+ total cap for:
-a lateral move in net (with the possibility of Murray rebounding).
-A downgrade at RD with more term
-A couple of prospects that don't really do anything.

If you want to make some cap room do the Pateryn for Bjugstad trade that's floating around. At least it makes some sense for both teams. But with the way JR has been trading PIT probably throws in their 2nd next season. sarcasm

Yeah... Nobody is taking on Johnson for that or anything close to it. Gonna have to add way more to get a team to swallow Johnson's contract

Murray or McCann gets it done...the notion that the Penguins will have to give up anything close to this package is absurd and the comments saying it isn’t enough are adorable and hilarious.

This is like MN offering Rask+Donato+Sokolov+4th for Bjugstad+McCann
