First, Bert will get $5 mil +
Second, it doesn’t do Det any good to sell their future for a 35 yo Malkin; he doesn’t turn us into a contender by any means

You do know Detroit is rebuilding right. And Bertuzzi is still a kid(25) and had a breakout year. Malkin is 10 years older and had a bad year, and it’s likely going to get worse(and hard)

So trading picks and good young players for 1 player is NOT going to make them better. Not sure what you are thinking but it is a solid NO.

No freaking way you're getting Krug that cheaply, If he leaves Boston. He's probably heading home to Detroit for a 3 year deal you'tr looking at $8.5m per season.

laugh laugh Detroit's not giving up those pieces for an aging Malkin, And besides Malkin isn't waiving for a rebuilding team like Detroit any ways.

If one player can make Detroit a contender then why doesn't Edmonton have several cups? McDavid and Draisaitl are both better than Malkin now and they didn't even pass the play in round. So trading a very good young player two 2nd rd picks and a prospect for 2 years of Malkin? Thinking that is good for Detroit is very funny. Plus the trend for Russian players is to go back and play a couple seasons in the KHL before retiring which is probably what he will do in two years.

the point is that malikin is better then larkin and mantha together, so if you have to sacrifice bertuzzi for a guy that is better at hockey then your top 2 players combined you do it. period.
age can be a factor and detroit is not ready to have a guy like malkin that wants to win so i can see why you say no... but the answer has nothing to do with bertuzzi or the picks cuz in the trade you're highly undervaluing geno. (still top 10 player in the league)

plus the reality is that pittsburgh would never do this trade.

Now you are making comparisons not even related to the trade that is being discussed Malkin isn't close to being to a worth that to any team that is rebuilding. Compare Bertuzzi's stats to Kapanen stats to who by the way you overpaid for.
mikearky liked this.

We agree on one point and that is Pittsburgh would not make the deal. Geno is a fixture and has a NMC, but everything else you said is where I disagree.

Geno is not a top ten player anymore. Is he still good yes but a top 10 player, no way. Also rebuilding clubs do not trade futures for 34 year players. Sorry that is the main point of my objection to this trade. When the Wings begin to be a contender Geno will be gone and we will and we will be out a player and picks.

i kind of get what you're saying (still think that geno is top 10 tho) but in my opinion this would be one of the biggest steal ever for detroit... you guys are losing two seconds and bertuzzi... you're getting the best player in the deal by far and you'd still be full of picks (two second rounders won't change your future) .
and yes we definitely overpaid for kappy but we have to try and win either next year, maybe the one after, but after that our window is going to close for a couple of years at least so i don't really mind the deal.

You have to look past the next 2 years when Malkin will be back in Russia. Detroit declines this easily.
