Which D man is more valuable at this point Lilg or Sandin? Would they part with either to give up cap dumps?

Sandin > Liljegren

The Leafs dont really have cap dumps though. Their overpaid players are the star forwards so it makes it much harder to clear cap without making changes to important roster players

Sure ok, let's call it tradeable assets then. Who would they be

realistic cap-clearing options would probably be Andersen, Johnsson, and Kerfoot. They would have to get another #1 goalie to replace Andersen though, and moving Kerfoot or Johnsson makes their bottom 6 pretty weak. Maybe Holl also if they are getting a RD back to replace him. Its hard to clear cap with this team without creating a hole in one part of the roster (unless they are open to moving one of the big 4 forwards)

It's amazing to me that so many think the Leafs Dmen are so bad. Nashville allowed eight fewer goals than the Leafs and are looking at 20.5m for their 3 top Dmen this year.
Leafs without Barrie and Ceci...will be better.

Another way to save cap space is to not drastically overpay Mikheyev..

Tradeable asset! I already corrected this.
But those two will have to be given away

They don't have much in cap dumps...but will likely have to pay (in picks, prospects) to get lower cap hits. Like getting Barrie at 50%.

I imagine there are options....guys like Josh Manson, John Klingberg, Damon Severson, Adam Larsson for ~$2-2.5 million (after retention). Odds of them hanging onto that 1st round pick, I think, are low.

Leafs allowed the 6th most goals against per game in the whole league. They are bad defensively. Nashville isnt a team to strive towards either - they were tied for 11th most goals against per game in the league

Johnsson would be the guy I look to move , now he won't land you a top 4 Dman but Johnsson packaged with Liljegren and the 15 OA would - theoretically they'd be looking to move money from F to D so a team like Arizona who will certainly lose Hall and have a glut of D men would be interested in Johnsson - there is also the theory of Liljegren being a top 4 (I don't believe he is at this time) or as many like to say "they have to move 1 of the big 4 in which case they are aquiring or signing an elite level Dman
