More likely it would be Couture for the 8th overall pick this year.

Also, if you're just throwing Gambrell away like that, Leags take it in a heartbeat. Same with the Devils. You've undervalued your players you're giving up

I guess this depends on if you're thinking long or short-term. Short-term it's great for Buffalo, but long-term it's bad for them. It also depends on what direction SJ decides to go. If they're going to rebuild then I'd imagine they'd be all over that trade.

SJ would be wise to bite the bullet and do rebuild now rather than waiting for some of these guys to get too old to get a good return.

31 year olds coming off a huge injury with 8 million a year for 7 more years dont get that pick

Before Buffalo makes any trade for Couture (who is a very good player) they need to consider that contract more than likely will be a bad contract down the road. that is why I would not trade Cozens or the 8th overall pick.

With the past history performance, especially in playoffs. Also with Buffalo pretty much desperate to improve now or risk losing Eichel soon... yes they do. Desperate teams make desperate moves.

Exactly. And imo, contract and all, getting a guy like Couture doesn't even qualify as desperate.

Sabres are not desperate. They are committed to developing this team through the draft and their prospect base. Everything they have done this offseason has shown that. If an elite younger player on a good contract becomes available then yes they likely would be willing to move some major assets, but they are not going to for a player in their 30's on a bad contract

Yeah there realistically isn't a trade to be made with SJ that involves moving cozens

Try telling that to Eichel. Who's already fed up with all the losing and horrible management after 5 years of not even making playoffs. You gotta give the face of the franchise a reason to wanna stay. & when he wants to win now, "developing through the draft and prospect base" is not the way to do it.

I also don't get where you have any reason to call the Couture contract a "bad contract".. the guy produces and produces when in the clutch. His one "down season" that you're probably talking about had him on pace for 62 points. Which is likely better than anyone on Buffalo's current roster not named Eichel. One iffy season where a guy battled injury doesn't define him as a "bad contract". If you wanna debate a bad contract, take a lot at a guy on your roster in Skinner. Yikes..

The Skinner contract is aweful no doubt. Couture contract would be fine if it had 3 - 4 years left max. The last few years on the deal are going to be very painful. Eichel is under contract for 7 more years, so they don't need to convince him to stay.

Okposo contract is bad as well no arguement on that. Because we have a couple of bad forward contracts does not mean we want to take on another one.

Do I need to find the video and link you to it where Eichel said he was fed up with losing? .. if that isn't a subtle hint to management to say "improve now so we can win or I don't wanna any part of it" then idk what is

He is under contract for 7 more years. I doubt he wants to sit out 4 or 5 seasons. He is not a UFA they need to convince to resign. Anyhow if in a 2 more years the Sabres haven't improved then they would be best to move on from him then anyhow, because he clearly would not be enough of a difference maker to be paying 10 million aav to.

That's not how it works with star players though. If they want out and management won't budge to either listen to his desire to win-now or trade him, then he'll start just playing haphazardly not putting in any effort and it just creates a toxic climate for the entire team and organization. No one wants that for 7 years lol.

I think he is too competitive and prideful of a person to do that. My personal opinion. He I believe he could realistically request a trade if things go badly the next couple of years but I don't think it will affect his play on the ice. If it does we have no issue moving him and good luck to whoever acquires him.

Couture isn't gonna be traded to Buffalo sadly and you aren't going to get any premium pieces for him unless you retain big time. For a full salary Couture and Colorado's 2nd I'd give you Montour, Hutton, Tage Thompson, and the 38th OA

I'm happy he hates losing. He has never said he wants a trade or is unhappy being a sabre. Its nonsense

Find another franchise to pawn your ancient players with huge contracts on for top 10 picks.
