Going after the big fish

Created by: GirouxCrew
Team: 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 9, 2020
Published: Sep. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This core has been together for too long. Fletcher gave them one more year after taking over to make a push. While making it to within one game of the ECF, they did not play well at all and only got that far because of Hart. Tim to build this team to fit AVs system
G has a NMC and Jake will be hard to move at his AAV. But at the same time he has been a top 20 scoring forward over the last 7 years. Hard to replace that production.

JVR was a logical choice to move to clear cap.

But I really do think that there needs to be a change to the top 6. That leaves Couts for the most part. He is on a very team friendly deal and will be looking to cash in at the end of it. I don’t want to pay a guy based on past performance and because he’s been underpaid for several years. I’d rather another team do that. So we unload him while still on said team friendly deal to make it more enticing and another team can benefit from the low cap hit but high production.
Pietrangelo is a true top pair RHD and he is too good to pass up and the perfect long term partner for Provy.
In another year or 2 we have York and Zamula coming up to fill out the defense on the left sode

Idk I feel like they would want the main player in this deal Couturier to have more term. After 2 years he walks, Buffalo is stuck with a declining JVR, a bottom 6 center and an unproven prospect.

I live in Massachusetts and my wife is a Bruins fan so I watch enough of their games. If Krug wants too much money and walks, I think Ghost that system would thrive and get back on track. It wasn’t that long ago that his contract was considered a steal. If he can get back to that player he’ll be a fan favorite. I think he just needs a fresh start

Sure they have Sanhiem a washed up JVR a bottom 6 forward and an unproven prospect. Sabres still decline Buffalo has a rookie GM they don’t need to trade Eichel for a long time.

They have 2 years to benefit from his very team friendly cap hit. Then they resign him. He will be their captain I’m sure. Also you’re forgetting about a top pairing dman to go with Dahlin. As well as a former first round pick prospect, a former second round prospect and a 2020 first rounder

He wouldn’t want to stay in Buffalo. Sabres still decline Eichel isn’t getting moved for a while.

I read he’s very unhappy there. If Eichel doesn’t want to stay there and couturier wouldn’t want to stay sounds like you have a lousy future ahead of you

He’s obviously not happy but that doesn’t mean he will get traded he has no leverage.

Adding an old dman makes the avs healthy magically? They got the injured not out classed or out coached in the 2nd round

Where's the space to sign Hart? These moves are super short sighted.

I didn’t say they got outclassed or out coached. But they do have a young defense and they could probably use a vet dman who has won a cup. They have some very high end forwards and will want to push to win a cup soon before they have cap issues when guys like Makar is die for a raise or Landaskog heads to FA

If you look at the long term outlook, they have 13 million to sign Hart, a backup goalie, Laughton and on or two ELCs with York Or Zamula stepping up to take over for McCabe and a 4th liner to take over for Raffl. Definitely doable

Good luck building a team around an unhappy elite talent and you waste his prime years for nothing more than to sell jerseys. If your star player is unhappy, no one will want to go there

Im sure there will be plenty of teams willing to trade for Niskanen but COL likely isnt one of them. The Avs should spend their available cap space on a forward if anything, not another D man when they already have Makar, EJ, Girard, Graves, Cole, Zadorov, Timmins, Byram ready for next season. Any team that loses out on Pietrangelo as a UFA would probably be a good trade partner - TOR, WPG, STL (if Piet doesnt sign), etc

Very fair point. Good argument. Although I think they should go after Holtby

I don’t think the bruins would have any interest. If they let krug walk, it’s because they like the young left shot d men in the system.

Bergie, Marchand , Krejci and Chara aren’t getting any younger. They want to make another push for a cup in the next two years before they need to reset. A young dman coming up through the system doesn’t help with that. Dmen take longer to develop.

So then they sign krug. (Taking on bad players on bad contracts doesn’t help anything either) Also worth noting that a young d man out of college instantly became the teams best player as a teenager, so maybe the bruins think differently.

Krug is gonna want too much. Ghost is only 2 years removed from a 65 point season. And he was playing hurt these past 2 years.

Not sure what kid you’re talking about

No but you said adding a guy you want to get rid of would help
The avs, it wouldn’t, they lost bc they were hurt, not bc they need “vet presence” or we don’t want to pay this old guy anymore
