I agree here... but in the year of the goalie I wouldn't rule it out. Sutter is a nice piece to have on a detroit team like this.

This is one of the better Canucks AGMs I have seen. This poster isn't afraid to take chances with unique ideas, and for the most part barring a few what ifs they are fair moves.

Pens would accept that. Dunno if Vancouver does though.

How exactly is Sutter a good piece? Moving up one round to take on that cap/salary to help Vancouver is not worth it for the wings. It would have to be a higher pick with no picks going back.

Yeah they probably would, but I think it would be bad. Honestly rather have Aston-Reese. Lower cap hit, and you know he will play good d (you know what you get from him). Obviously Jake has a higher ceiling, but he will get way more than he is worth in arbitration, and he is wildly inconsistent. JB is fed up with him, and that's a guy that left really good players on the table to draft the guy. Between the play, cap hit differences and extra assets, I would not do this.

There's this perception that Sutter is a worthless cap dump... and I would have actually agreed with this prior to the playoffs...

But for one year on a team without a cap issue, Sutter still brings a lot. He is an epic penalty killer and is highly responsible defensively. He might not finish plays, but he is good at creating them. He thrived in the playoffs. I'd probably remove the 4th going to the wings, but Sutter isn't a pay-to-move piece.

I don't agree with all that, but even if we say that stands to reason, why would the wings want him if they are not getting a worth while return? They are rebuilding and have enough guys like Sutter of their own locked in with term. They might take him on, but the return would have to be more.

Too many people have this "take him on" mentality. He's an asset, not just soemthing you "take on". Canucks would add to this deal as Bernier is worth more.... but you need to remove that mindset that we have to PAY to move sutter.

I think in a flat cap world, where there are going to be teams with an internal cap, if rumors are to be believed, I don't think he is an asset. No contending team is trading for him because for the value of player at that cap hit, they have better. That leaves bad teams (since they are the ones with space). For them to take him, because Vancouver has to move him and they have leverage, they will use that and ask for more.

A trade and sign for Jake? Why not just trade away his rights?

I think the Canucks should definitely tap into the RFA defenceman market but I don't think Zadorov is the guy. Cernak, Weegar, Dunn, and Toews would be much higher on my list.
