Is Ben Bishop on the Market

Created by: TheOneTrueGM
Team: 2020-21 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2020
Published: Sep. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Dobby playing excellent in these playoffs and Oettinger waiting in the wings rumors has it they may listen to offers for Bishop, especially given his injury history.

It will be interesting to see what we do with Ned, he now requires waives and I think he could be a solid goalie but needs a little more time and a real chance at a backup role

This team still needs a top six winger but would need to move salary out to do so. I don't see free agency as the answer. I think we need to trade for someone with term/controllable and who can bang some bodies and go to the front of the net. I think we are a little perimeter oriented.

Trade Targets: Max Domi, Alex Killorn, Josh Anderson, Jake Virtanen

Free Agent Targets: Vlad Namestnikov, Craig Smith, Alex Galchenyuk, Evgeni Dadonov

If you get Bishop which would be awesome for you I'll take gardiner with all his flaws if we don't get krug and I'll take reimer for 3rd and a 4th rounder.

I think that’s more than enough for bishop. With his injury history I think Dallas would be looking to move him. If u can move dzingle out the canes have enough cap space for a winger in the top 6, hopefully someone young and with some term

No freaking way i'd give up a 2021 1st round pick+2020 2nd round pick for Ben Bishop he has health issues he's not worth anywhere close to that much.

Bishop is good when healthy, but that's a gross overpayment for him. Just the 2nd would be a lot considering what Tampa and LA got got him.

Sorry Jake Gardiner isn't worth a 3rd rounder.

Interesting to see what happens next year when Svech asks for 7.5+ and Hamilton for 9

literally the only time Bishop gets injured is during a big moments, other than that he's fine, he's one of the better passing goalies and his 6'7 210 frame will be able to stop a lot of pucks.

That honestly seems like too much for Bish. I’d do Bish for Reimer and Fleury

No more then a 4th at best, He hasn't been all that wonderful in Carolina and is definitely overpaid.

Yeah I didn't know how much it'd take. Because he does have a decent contract and in my opinion is a top 5 goalie.

I agree he wasn't all that awesome but he did turn things around and looked more comfortable as the season progressed. I disagree though that he's overpaid, he only makes 4 million which isn't all that bad for a D-man

Wings pass, if you want to dump that contract you have to pay us to take it, not the other way around

Its not a bad contract. Its 4 million for 3 more years, If you look at what D-man are signing for it doesn't look bad at all. When you guys pay 8+ million for Krug for 6-8 years we'll see how that ages. When you look at past contracts that DET has dished out it makes Gards look like an absolute steal. No disrespect though, I just don't agree that it is a bad contract.

I wasn't trying to be disrespectful either, sorry if it came off that way. My take is, your logic is true for a playoff team, but currently in a flat cap, cut cost world the red wings have a ton of cap space and are going to use it as a weapon. They aren't competing this year, so taking on any contacts would only happen if they were compensated. This is why I think Carolina trades him elsewhere or pays us to take him.

Yeah I didn't think you were disrespectful, and I see your point. I just thought that DET was weak on D and thought Gards would be an upgrade for their D. But you make a good point about it being a flat cap world and how teams might use their cap space as a weapon for team up against it.

To be fair in a normal world I do think what you are saying makes sense, I just think in today's world we are looking to take.on bad cap hits to gain assets. Example Loui erikkson for demko and a pick. Steen and bozak for picks. Etc..
