If the Leafs are choosing to trade Dermott, I bet they would aim higher than this.

They're getting one of the best 2way 4Cs in the game and a 3rd for someone who wont play top 4 on his strong side in toronto any time soon

Take Bracco and Glendening out. I’d give a third rounder to try Dermott. I’d honestly rather go after established top 4 guy like Dillon in FA.

Okay.

I still think they would aim higher, what you offered them is not substantially better than what they could get in the UFA market for nothing, and a 3rd round pick has very little value.

IF they chose to trade Dermott, I have to imagine it would be for help on a defensive upgrade, not a 4C who is going to play 8 minutes a game.

Babs isnt coaching the Leafs anymore. When he left, so did any interest in Glendenning

Dermott will get at least a 2nd imo. He is very underrated and a lot better in his own end then people give him credit for

It's not that far off. If the leafs traded Dermott they'd likely get a 2nd rounder. And if they're not convinced Dermott is who they want to see on the right-side, they might opt against trying to re-sign him to $2m+ or whatever he's asking.

A lot would depend on what the leafs want out of their 3/4 C. With Kerfoot, Spezza, Gauthier and Engvall as the current options (depending on what Spezza wants to do)...I can see them looking to move Kerfoot to save on cap space. There's long been rumours that the Leafs like Glendenning, but that was also in the Babcock days. But with this deal you could roll with 3/4 Centres both under $1m on the cap, trade Kerfoot and use the space to get someone to play RHD you like better than Dermott,

A lot of people on here assume you can pick up someone better in free agency...but trades give GM's certainty they don't have going into the July 1 negotiating period. It's why I think a guy like Dermott has more value on here than most give him credit for, should the Leafs choose to make him available

That’s fine, I’m not saying Dermott is a bad player by any stretch but rather he’s not ED exempt or established top 4. If Detroit signs a top 4 LD like I hope we’d have DDK-UFA-Nemeth-Cholowski (whom we need to see what we have in him before ED)

I'm not going to sit here and say he's some amazing talent but the guy is a cheap 4th line forward who can play on the PK and it will be one of your best face off guys on the team.

I have a bucket of dry rotted hockey pucks in my basement and that is all I'd give up to get Bracco.
