You would need to include a 1st if you want Danault in that trade

Markstrom wants at least 5 years $30 million from what's being reported, Detroit doesn't want Benn and you'd need to at least attach a 2nd round pick to move Baertschi.

I’d accept the Baertschi trade, and I’d consider the Benn trade. We need to acquire 1-2 LHD this offseason and if we don’t get someone better through free agency or another trade, I’d give a 7th for him to be our 3LD.

Yzerman's pretty shrewd. He would recognize that Baertschi's real salary is only $2.4 million and it's for 1 year. Detroit has the cap space and this deal buys a 3rd rounder for a 7th and gives a slight upgrade to the forward group in the meantime. Word here is Markstrom wants to stay and the AAV reflects what Vancouver media has been reporting.

Word is that Benning has negotiated with Markstrom for well over one year and reportedly isn't anywhere closer to a deal, That comes from the Canucks own people. But we shall see.

Virtanen for Danault is a good start... I think MTL wants Danault extended, but if they can’t get it done, a sign&trade make more sense after free agency starts. If Vancouver could extend Danault, then MTL would get more than Virtanen. Probably get a 1st rd pick and a decent prospect (not Goldobin) on top of Virtanen.

You're could be right. I don't know much about Danault's value. I researched and saw he had been moved to the 3rd line and that Bergevin was shopping him. JD Burke of Elite Prospects put together a somewhat similar mock trade so I used that as my starting point. I know Montreal is looking for a power forward and Jake could fit that mold... I could see adding a first but Virtanen, a first, and a good prospect... I have to diaagree

Kevin Woodley reported Detroit was hot and heavy for Markstrom. Looks like we'll have to see what happens

Not really interested in these moves for Detroit as I’d rather acquire bigger cap dumps for better futures or save the cap space for FAs.

From what i saw Yzerman was hot and heavy pretty much for both Markstrom and or Demko pretty much since the pandemic started. Honestly if a deal can be reached he's by far better off staying in Vancouver referring to Marky.

I get your point. The Baertschi trade was a way to weaponize cap space to get Detroit a higher draft pick but the Benn trade might be pushing it. Tough to say. If it's true that Yzerman os going after Markstrom then maybe he wants to turn things around more quickly.

Well, if Van signs Marky then Demko will be available for trade before the expansion draft!

Very possible, we have a couple guys in our goalie pipeline but they don’t help us next year and Bernier only has one year left. Outside of trying to weaponize the cap we have to consider roster construction in that there might not be an AHL/ECHL season so what do we do with our own players? We’ve already loaned out some of our top guys (Zadina, Seider, Rasmussen, etc) but we also need to play guys like Svechnikov & Cholowski before the ED to get a good read on whether we need to protect them. I also don’t want to say we for sure spend to get futures because Chris Illitch is at the helm now and not his late father Mike.

Would rather go after Demko if he gets dealt, Makes way more sense for us with our rebuild. He's younger and fits our rebuild timeline. Markstrom would be to expensive and i can't see him wanting to waste what's probably going to be his last big payday on a rebuilding club.

You've got Yzerman and already a buttload of draft picks in this deep draft. I think you're in good hands
