Both trades are quite terrible for NJD.

Dumba is not the kind of d-man they need...unless they are moving Severson, who would cost Toronto Nylander or Sandin + 1st.

So Dumba for the VAN 1st+Zacha+Anderson
We pay the 39th overall to move up 2 spots?

Yeah, I wouldn't do it. There isn't enough difference in those 2 spots to be worth the 39th pick.

It's really not that far off though. If the Wild had a 3rd this year I'd send that instead. Or their 3rd next year.

So MN adds FWDs # 15 and 16 to their team? Maybe trying to start a new trend in the NHL with playing 3 d-men and 5 FWD lines?

I'd could see a swap of a current FWD for Zacha, but not a trade like this.

This is pretty in-line with what some of the insiders say they price could be.

You can always make more trades to trim forwards.

#9 instead of #10 but yeah.

I'd also request changing VAN's 1st to ARI's 1st.

So...Dumba and the 9 for Zacha, the 7, and the 18...and Anderson for the 39. Is that the basic breakdown?

I think that would be tough to turn down. Would taking out Anderson and the 39 make more sense?

Correct, I do this in a heartbeat. Grab Rossi or Holtz, plus we get a second 1st.

I break it down as

Dumba for 18, Zacha, Anderson

That's the Dumba for 1st, good young roster player, and misc third piece.

9 and 39 for 7

It's not bad, but the 39 is too steep for me to move up those 2 spots. So it's slightly underwhelming. Like I said earlier, if it was a 3rd instead of a 2nd I'd do it. Not sure if that'd be a deal breaker for NJ.

That's way too many trades to make to trim the FWD numbers. Most of the tradeable FWDs are either too valuable (Fiala, Kaprizov, JEE) or middle-6 (or lower) players.

I like Zacha, and I think he'd be a good fit middle-6 center with MN's system. Anderson doesn't do anything for me. He'll have trouble even making the NHL because of the backlog of FWDs. At least one of those 1sts will be a FWD, and MN has a few good FWD prospects already in their system.

This has the feel of the Burns trade all over again: a RD+2nd sent away for stuff, with all the risk on MN's side. Zacha = Seto, Anderson = Coyle, 1st = Phillips (bust). Moving up a couple of spots in the draft doesn't matter to me. MN gets the same quality player with either pick.

The difference in the two spots is picking up Rossi vs Lundell.

Worth it, imo.

I don't want Rossi. He's the FotM, but not he's one of the oldest guys in the draft (so is Lundell). His 1st year OHL stats weren't anything special, and playing in the OHL that 2nd year in the OHL is a big jump for lots of players. Everything I see of him says Gaudreau type NHL winger and that's not what MN needs.

I don't see both being there. It means 2 of Sandersson, Holtz, and the goalie are picked before 9oa. BUF will take one of them at 8oa.

Talk is that a few teams have Sanderson above Drysdale
Anaheim and Buffalo like Holtz
Anaheim also likes defense
Sanderson and Askarov have both been linked to Ottawa at times
Quinn, Jarvis have also seen their names slide into top 10 in some rumor mills

Lundell is also regarded as scouts as a borderline top 10 pick. Rossi may fall due to size.

There is a very, very easy path to both of them being there, and in fact it's very likely that at least one is.

Lafreniere
Stutzle
Byfield
Perfetti
Raymond
Sanderson
Drysdale
Holtz
Rossi or Lundell at 9

Everyone is so sure Buffalo takes a center. I would bet that they don't, unless Raymond, Perfetti and Holtz all go top 7.

Laf, Bayfield, Stuzle, Perfetti, Drysdale, Raymond are all gone within the top-7 picks. Rossi I think goes before 9th (he's not Caufield small) too. So that leaves Lundell (I do think BUF take him though), Holtz (is this year's Boldy that falls), Sanderson, the goalie at 8oa.
