I'm listening. How do the Caps trade up from their 1st (24th overall and owned by Washington) to Toronto's 1st (13th overall and owned by Carolina)? And is Calgary trading Johnny Hockey and thinking playoffs or are they looking for more prospects? Also, does Calgary think the average 13th overall pick, one year after the draft, is as good as McMichael? Because if so...
Sorry I misread and for some reason I thought you had Toronto's first. Oversight on my end
CGY Trading Johnny for A+ Prospects (NHL ready) and at least 1 B+ roster player at a minimum with a 1st as well most likely which is why I dont think he fits in a trade to Washington as Vrana would likely be the only suitable target for NHL ready player.

Vrana and Gaudrea tied for 10th among left wings with 40 even strength points this year, but Gaudreau had twice as much ice time and has twice the cap hit. So, no thank you.
Connor McMichael at 2C and PP1 on a re-tooling, Monahan-less Flames might outscore Gaudreau at 3L PP2 on an all-in Caps. I halfway think McMichael could win the Calder Trophy, whenever a spot opens up for him. No rush. No need to trade. In a short season, there will be tons of injuries. But a one for one is about as high as the Caps need to go, in value. Then add some cap balancing, of course.
You simply cannot compare 1 season (Vrana's best VS Johnny's worst) and say the 2 players are equal, that isn't how it works.
Vrana is 3 years younger and has had 3 "full" season in the NHL on a playoff contender putting up a career high 52pts this past season.
Johnny has had 6 full seasons in the NHL on a subpar team putting up career high 99pts and his LOWEST point season at 58pts which still puts him ahead of Vrana.
You simply cannot compare the two at all here, 31 out of 31 GM's take JG over Vrana.
