MTL accepts easily. We get a free 2nd round, since Mete and Niku's value are about the same imo. And Niku is a RD, which is great for us

Value is pretty good, but I don't think WPG is looking to move Laine for so much older players. Laine's only 22, Kuzy's 28 and Kempny 30...

Btw Niku is LHD, just plays on the right side because WPG is lacking in RHDs...

u might be right but i dont think its a big deal since jets should be trying to win now and the rest of the forward group is mostly young

Why does Washington do this? Eller is a good 3 c but he isn't a 1 or 2 c. Washington doesn't have trouble scoring goals

I'm not arguing value in arguing organizational need

Jets isn't good enough for them to be in win now mode. Otherwise they wouldn't be getting 10th overall pick lol. Their defense is still too weak, and it's not like Kempny is bringing major change to that. Not to mention that they have a Laine-size hole in the roster after a move as such - a hole they'll likely plan to fill by drafting either Holtz or Quinn. But developing them will also take time.

Yeah, yeah, Laine is younger and scores so many power play goals from the OV spot. Kuznetsov plays better at #1C, and led the playoffs in points in 2018, and the Caps already have Ovechkin.

I don't see a need for WSH to add a 1st or Kempny, but they could swap Kempny for whatever middle six center becomes a spare part after Kuznetsov shows up.

eta: this may seem silly based on age and how good Laine is when he's good, but look at how few centers are on the market this summer. The most likely alternatives are Haula, Turris, or Wennberg. Winnipeg wants to win, and Kuznetsov is the right option to get them to the finals. Can WSH add something? Sure. Why not. But a 1st in a deep draft is pretty valuable right now. Maybe, like:

Kuznetsov, Kempny, Pinho, Johansen, 2nd, 3rd for Laine, Lowry.

Until he's in the NHL he's not worth making big moves for. Who says he doesn't end up being a winger in the NHL?
