Stevie Y's master plan is not signing a free agent to a 6 year contract that will hinder development.

they are finally getting out from under their terrible contracts, his plan is to suck, and tank, and stock the system with picks over the next 2-3 years while waiting for contracts to expire.

Buying out zetter when he can go ltir doesn't really make alot of sense. I like donskoi but you could probably sign fast cheaper and get the same production amd not have to lose picks. I still hold out hope they add 1 impact player somewhere.

Well it only hinders development if there is someone to hinder. I dont think their is a center we own that fits that 2nd line center hole. So adding a guy there granlund or someone else who can go to wing too if someone emerges isn't a terrible idea.

Colorado would say yes to that pretty easily.

I don't really understand the point of the Ott deal

“his plan is to suck, and tank”
LOL. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve read on here in a while. Yzerman will have this team on the cusp by mid-season 22-23. Nielsen and Abby will be the only bad contracts left after next season and they’ll be buried or bought out.

Would you agree that purposely tanking (losing every night) isn’t a good plan when it comes to “developing” young talent?

... they still suck and most of their young talent want to be traded away from the S- show.

Absolutely, they can be bad but they can't be historically bad again. They have to atleast look like they're trying to improve

for 6 year term?... Veleno, or Possibly Rossi if they draft him (or as some Detroit pundits believe Ottawa might take Drysdale at #3 leaving Byfield available), the system is empty, they need 2-3 seasons of being bad to get top end picks, especially with Shane Wright available in 2022.

You're better off bringing in good locker room vets to play bottom minutes... plus they have vets already there in Filppula, Nielsen, Abdelkader, Helm, so why bring in a guy on a long term deal and assume he'll help develop, also, why the hell would Granlund even want to go to Detroit?

they have zero depth in their system, at literally every position.... and you think in 2 years they'll be on the cusp?... that is the most homerism thing i've on here in a while, and Leafs fans post nonsense all day long.

They'll still be bad if you sign granlund or not. You can't just tank for 4 years. You can't tell the players in the room you guys blow we're sending you out on the ice and we dont give a **** that you're bad.

do you see the circular logic your saying?

"they need vets to develop otherwise players get cranky" ----> "they'll still suck with Granlund"..... so, back to my original question, why get Granlund then?

they already have vets to develop, and I listed them above.... so... why?

go get a Nate Thompson, or Ron Hainsey on a 1-2 year contract.
perfect locker room guys, Thompson did great things in Montreal with the kids.
