Selling Gourde now

Created by: BOLTLOVER1
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 3, 2020
Published: Oct. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All agree that Tyler Johnson is #1 desired Tampa player to be traded. But should we need a #2 .. my vote is Gourde:
1. He did have a great playoff Cup run. No doubt.
2. But previous 2 season were really bad .. 4th line .. ever since he signed that 6 year $32M contract.
3. His play was GREATLY enhanced playing with Coleman and Goodrow.
4. I would take Killorn over Gourde in a heartbeat. KILLORN more a leader, goal scorer, plays 2nd line and PP, and much better contract .. 3 year 13M.
4. Paquette could slide into 3C role with little issue .. and 4M cheaper than Gourde.

Gourde contract cost us 90 pt. JT Miller last year .. will it be Killorn (or one of RFAs) this year.. sell Gourde high ASAP

Good analysis of Gourde the whole Tampa situation. Montreal is one of few teams that can take on Gourde and his 5.16m cap without shedding cap. Maybe, (though I doubt it) he would have waive for Montreal. But let's imagine he does and it might be the only team that waives for, his "trade" value is very low. Tampa might just take a 7th rounder and say thank you as it allows them to sign Circelli for instance.

QUESTION .. hopefully we trade Johnson and Gourde .. my dream scenario for Tampa ... BUT if we waive/buy them out .. doesnt that save us 2/3 of their combined cap hit of $11M in 2020? So around 8M? I know we would still owe another 1/3 in future but don't you want to do this now .. next year we have Coleman (has to be resigned) and Goodrow due up ..

I think this is enough .. if need few million more look at Mc Ilhaney, Colburn and Paquette ( although he favorite of mine due to versatility and grit)

I assume you mean Cernek not Shatterkirk .. he gone

You're not getting an early 2nd for Gourde. Even MTL cant swallow that contract without Tampa paying them to do so.

That's bad contract, it won't get you a 2nd. But Bergevin traded a 5th for the rights of Joel Edmundson tears of joy so who knows

So you won the cup now you think mtl wants to do you a favour and take on you worst contract so you can win more? I think Bergevin would be interested in killorn amd likely should be able to get him cheap since Tampa has way to much to deal with. If they can’t work it out than someone will likely offersheet Sergachev.

Gourde going home to Montreal makes tons of sense they can afford his $5,1666,666 over the next 5 seasons. I've a feeling that both Gourde and Killorn will be dealt here shortly and that will open some cap for Julien BriseBois to lock up Cernak,Cirelli and Sergachev.

July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022: Full 'No Trade' clause

good luck with that.

Hope you got another tax haven team to send him to. Because if I'm him, I'm not moving to a new team to pay taxes.

Tampa is not in a position where they can ask for an asset. Their players will decide where they want to go.

If MTL is (1) one of the few teams Gourde would accept to go and (2) one of the few teams that can afford him, you have good chance to only have 1 trade partner. You have 0 leverage because you're forced to trade him (or Johnson/Killorn) and you have 1 partner.

Because it is a dangerous contract and because you have 0 leverage, the return is "Future considerations" at max. You could maybe find more partners with a sweetner.

I love Gourde, but don't expect a 2nd from Brisebois

Why can't people understand these clauses really don't matter.. Staal Hornquist Larsson etc.. I laugh at this .. there is a THREE year cap freeze .. as Hornquist said .. " if team doesnt want you writing on wall .. " .. there will be ZERO stigma in waiving someone who sticks to clause..

Yes you are right, BUT THOSE players are short term and were told they'd be bought out and were kindly offered a trade scenario.
The TJ, Gourde, Palat and McD long term types are NOT being bought out!
BIG DIFFERENCE, simply refuse to move if they so wish...

Palat and TJ NTC expires this year.. so really they only 1 year .. Gourde is the WORST conttact by far .. lets hope ezpanison helps here as NTCs don't count either

You need to shed 10m cap now to keep Serg and Cirelli in the fold, trading Killorn alone won't cut it. Sounds like Serg, even Cirelli will have to be sacrificed

Tampa has little desire to trade Gourde, who drove the 2nd most effective line Tampa had in the playoffs. Gourde had one rough regular season when he got pushed down the lines yet when he did get premium minutes he 11 points in the final 16 regular season games. Paquette can also not even come close to replacing Gourde and is likely getting traded as well. Gourde is younger than Killorn and brings 110% every shift. Killorn is a solid player but aside from this year, he’s been a .5 ppg player nearly his whole career. He is the easiest to trade and will bring back good value. It is what it is with the flat cap, but unless Tampa wants to move Cernak or Cirelli to prioritize keeping Killorn, he’s gone. Brisebois can either take an underwhelming return with a team Johnson is willing to waive to, or Johnson gets waived. The 8.75 or so million moving Killorn, Johnson and Paquette will save(after factoring in replacements) should give Tampa enough to bridge the 3 main rfas and sign Maroon, Bogo and one more cheap depth F or D. The exact numbers on the contracts will determine if they start the season with 21 or 22 on the roster.

Also, Miller was never going to sniff a ppg pace here due to his deployment, and his trade value was higher than Gourde’s was. The trade worked out great for both teams, as it led to Coleman for Tampa and Miller exceeded all expectations for Vancouver. The tired narrative that Tampa gave up some 90 point player when more than likely he’d have been lucky to hit 50 here on the 3rd or 4th line, is comical. He was also, until this year, a ghost in the playoffs, so that also didn’t help his case. I am a fan of Miller’s, and perhaps if he had played the whole year with the likes of Point, Stamkos and Kucherov, he’d have done the same here and either still have been a Bolt or the return would’ve been even better. In any case, Gourde has more than proved his value to the team and should rank ahead of Killorn and Johnson, only behind Palat, in order of who should get moved to free the space needed. I’d love to keep all of them except Johnson, but that’s just not feasible if the key rfas are to be kept.

Incorrect, Tampa realistically only needs to move Killorn in order to bridge Sergachev and Cirelli. They need to move out one more of the ~5 million guys to ensure they can bridge Cernak and keep a couple of the other players they may be looking to try and re-sign(Maroon, Bogosian, Rutta etc.).
