The rationale behind Domi-Anderson

Description
So the trade 1 for 1 makes sense, both team fills their needs. Still, Domi as a player carries more value to most people. If there was a pick involved, it would have been the other way around. Why does CBJ receive a 3rd?

It's all theory, but let's try to figure this out

1) Domi and his agent wanted long term.

They would have refused a bridge, which was prefered by MTL because Domi bad playoffs + no need for C long term. Therefore, Bergevin thought that this was going to arbitration, which means 1 year of Domi then UFA and MTL lose him. He had to sell now for low

2) The projection of both contracts favored Anderson value

Evolving-Hockey have Domi at
5.3m 2 y
6.1m 3 y
6.1m 4 y
6.2m 5 y

Anderson at
2.6m 2y
3.4m 3y
3.8m 4y

Bergevin saw more value in Anderson potential contract than in Domi' contract. Think about it, would you rather have Domi or Anderson if the latter cost 2m less for a year or two less? He forced the trade by adding a 3rd

3) Bergevin values cap space because he has an other move incoming. He still rather have Anderson than picks

afterall, Bergevin felt he was stuck with him so he sold low. He also saw Anderson as a must have, so he forced the trade with a 3rd

I’m guessing it’s a combination of Domi not wanting to resign in Montreal and him wanting too much money. I

honestly, if Anderson is 100% healthy(this trade implies that he could be) then this is a steal for MTL in my opinion. a player of that speed, power, and skill are hard to get. plus his contract will be more manageable for MTL going forward.

This should sum up a difference. 3rd the other way should have been what happened. Your idea of him getting less of a contract shouldn't even be considered why they would trade him for less.

better hope his production was not because of Panarin, in the one year he was not with panarin he had a whopping 1 goal, 4 points in 26 games....might have a traded a 2c/1st/2nd line LW and 3rd round pick for a 4th line player....

This nullifies that entire thing. He's more valuable and therefore should be getting more back for him rather than less for more.

I think most people (me included) saw Anderson value goes down because of injuries. There's a part of risk involved when a players is out that long.

"This nullifies this entire thing" lmao that's bad faith man

lol make up whatever reasons you want, but MTL got fleeced. You traded Domi for someone who had 3 points in 26 games, AND had to add

Not bad faith I just know that Anderson even before injury wasn't as good as Domi. What is gonna happen now that Anderson is coming off of 3 points in 26 games?

No doubt Colombus won that, but I'm not trying to justify, I'm trying to understand. This is not a bootlicker post

Even if you're guaranteed 2018-19 Anderson idk that he's worth Domi

Save your breath there is no justifying it lol. Teams make dumb trades it happens, but it's not worth trying to justify that.

Everyone thought arizona won the trade between Domi and Galchenyuk. And here we are talking about who won the trade today. I’ll judge the trade after 1 year minimum. I think the Habs could’ve got a pick instead of sending one but we got a player we’re looking for and moved a player we didn’t need.
