No Move Clause. Plus if the hawks were to trade toews or kane they'd want a boatload of futures back. Not another 11 mil contract

Tavares has a ntc, so there's a non starter to this team already... Bogosian as a 2nd pair is not good. He will be good as a pk and 3rd pair guy, but not 2nd pair.

Would be a waived ntc for it to happen, I know but i also know how Toews is now unhappy with all of Stans moves as of late. And Tavares is also 2 years younger.

The Tavares move is just something I would like to see happen. And Toews is the only comparable contract and skill level that would make sense and a fit for both. I tried to go back to edit the d pairings but it wouldn't allow it. 1st time user.

Kings pass. They don't have any need for another RHD.

"a fit for both" no, it's a fit for the Leafs because Toews is one of, if not the best captain in hockey. If Hawks moved toews, which would be shocking, there is not a chance we bring in someone like Tavares....much rather just keep Toews.

That is highly debatable. On the ice; Toews is slightly better at the dot, better at two way play, better on the PK and on defense; Tavares is slightly better point producer but on a better offensive team, that said, Tavares is better in the offensive zone IMO but not by much. These guys are close in so many ways, but Toews has a work ethic on and off the ice you rarely see in hockey. Guy gives it all 99% of games.

Off the ice, Toews is hands down the better leader. If you can wrangle Kane into following what you say, you're a damn good leader.

I'd easily keep Toews over Tavares despite Toews being 2 years older.

Probably a case of both teams not doing the deal, Tavares isn't the leader toews is but hard to say if he's a bad one as we're not in the locker room. Toews defense while not bad has dropped off and I don't think he gives enough offense to make up the difference (15 points on average give or take)

Detroit would reject. Goes against the whole acquiring draft picks during a rebuild. Engvall will be 25 yrs old next season and that 2nd round pick will be in the 32-35 range at the top of the 2nd round (I say 32 because Arizona's pick if forfeited). Engvall hasn't even scored 20 goals and still was an AHL/NHL tweener that didn't show really anything in the playoffs.

Both players had 60 points this past season. Season prior Tavares 88 to Toews 81. Keep in mind, Tavares is hands down on a better offensive team.

Toews was ahead for the selke votes 2 years ago, Tavares didn't make it this past season Toews did both years being 15th best defensive forward. Corsi and Fenwick Toews is quite ahead in career and Toews better this season, ironically they matched each other 2 years ago. Not a huge advanced analytics fan but does support what is being said that Toews has the upper hand in all around game.

If we go back 3 and 4 years ago, Toews was dealing with a pretty bad back injury he got at the end of the season 4 years ago and played with for a full season 3 years ago. He changed his rehab and workout during the off season and came back strong 2 years ago to his normal self. I think that 1 and a 1/3rd injured season is where people were questioning Toews as his numbers fell off accordingly.

You're spot on and Tavares 2 years more until UFA

The people responding to you seem so sure that Toews loyalty would keep him anchored to a shabby rebuild at 30 instead of going to pursue more glory

Once it gets inevitably ugly too no less I mean...

2 years more under contract also though

Thank you for mentioning analytics later on

Albeit with the caveat but hey every bit counts

Yeah but what are those 2 years more years worth for an aging player and even bigger cap hit to a team rebuilding? Assuming Toews plays out his contract with the Hawks, he would likely also extend for much cheaper as long as the Hawks are competitive again in 3 years. The advanced analytics say Toews is slightly better, despite being 2 years older, but more importantly the intangibles wouldn't make sense for Chicago to think about doing this.
