Trying something different to land 1st line LW

Description
Just trying something different to land a top line LW to play with Suzuki and Anderson. We keep Danault as our #2C and by shifting Toffoli to LW, are top 6 is still really good.

Signed Wennberg as our 3C as a reliable shutdown guy that can provide a little offence but not a ton, reason I think CBJ bought him out. Short term deal until Poehling is ready to take over.

Added Sutter on the fourth line for experience and depth and added size with Gauthier.

Of course, the big trade for Huberdeau. I imagine that most on here will say it's not enough but if you compare to recent blockbuster trades of the last few years (think Stone, Hall, Erik Karlsson) and what those team gave up to get them, I would say that FLA's returned on this trade is pretty good, if not great. I'm not trying to compare all those players whatsover but if you look at the returns, this trade holds up for sure. OTT did not get a ton in return for Stone and one could say that Stone is just as good as Huberdeau. If KK becomes a star and Drouin produces more than 50 pts a year, Panthers can say the trade was worthy it. Maybe being out of MTL gives Drouin the opportunity to just play and not deal with the excess pressure of the MTL media. Not saying that Panthers make this trade but I think Habs have a solid offer on the table that the Panthers would at least have to consider seriously imo.

I like Tatar as a player, but the Wild need to get younger and build through the draft. We aren't a contender and adding a 30 year old 50-60 point winger and then signing him until he's 35 isn't going to make us one.

I think to play it safe you overpaid for Huberdeau so people on here won’t lose their minds, but that deal is probably enough for 2 or 3 Huberdeaus.

IMO, Caufield + Kotkaniemi + a 1st + 3rd is pretty fair, if not creeping into steep territory.

Tell me about, hahaha!!! I did one a couple of weeks ago ahead of the 2020 draft when Bergevin indicated he was willing to trade his first round pick which looked like this:

MTL gets:
Huberdeau

FLA gets:
Domi
Jordan Harris
Kulak
Tatar
2020 1st rd pick
2020 2nd rd pick (from STL)

I was crucified on this site because that wasn't nearly enough in the mind of some people on this site. One guy even suggested that it would take Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov and the first round pick for FLA to even consider it. That's what I find so funny on this site, how so many people have no idea about value of players. We're all fans of course, and we'll often make trades that would benefit our favorite team more than the other but some people are absolutely nuts about asking prices for players. Mark Stone, who's as good as Huberdeau, was traded for a high end prospect, a 2nd round pick and a minor league player who no longer plays in North America. OTT would've love to get this kind of return when they traded Stone.

Well that’s cause you didn’t give anything Florida would want. If they’re trading huberdeau taht probably means they’re gonna rebuild and those pieces are rebuilding material but the pick which would likely be 16-22 range. And Ottawa got probably the best d prospect at the time in that trade. The trade you listed above well yes it’s an over pay but at least you put in prospects worth wanting.

If Bergevin made this trade he’d be fired before he could sign the paperwork
