imagine sending a former AHL defenseman who had one good year next to a stud dman, an underperforming player and a decent goalie for a potential 30+ goal scorer and a top 5 goalie in the league +retention. Beats me. (jk lol)

Final touches in which Sakic trades out 35% of the roster... makes sense for sure.

Most the roster??? In fact I have 3 new F's (Debrusk, Strome, Haula) because Kaut and O'Connor are prospects who are ready to go. And I have 3 new D's (Weegar, Fleury, Hamonic). But the main core of this team remains there. The goal is always to cut the salary cap for the future while improving.

Look who's leaving:
Def: Cole, Johnson, Graves = $13,416M less.
Fwd: Donskoi, Calvert, Compher, Bellemare, Jost = $11,249M less.

The're all easily "swappable" players in a lineup and yet it's almost $25M your salary cap. So if you are able to trade these players and get picks and RFA from other teams, you have to do it. Then you go to UFAs to fill the spots if needed. It's a perfect year to do that, a lot of players are signing for less because of that COVID sh**.

People are going to say: "Yeah but how are you going to keep all these players in 2 years?" I may not be able to keep them all indeed but I created cap space and if I win a Cup in the next 2 years, that's the most beautiful problem I can have, right?
