Getting out of cap hell by any means necessary

Created by: Leafsleaks123
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 21, 2020
Published: Oct. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The difficult part is convincing Johnson to go to Detroit, but if he’s promised a top six role there, and he gets it in his head that he’s not wanted in Tampa, I think he’ll be willing to give a much improved Detroit squad a chance

A late second round two drafts from now doesn’t really entice me to take on TJ. Everyone and their mom knows moves need to be made by TB.

MN says no, and stop trying to send your overpayed midget FWDs to them. They already have one of those and don't need anymore more.

Look I get that MIN nor any other team doesn't need those players nor should they help out TBL out of the goodness of their hearts but those midget FWDs just helped TBL win the cup. Their contracts I wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole in this economy unless a 1st rounder came dangled with them but let's show some respect to a guy like Gourde as a player.

I think it might have to be more than a 1st rounder for any of them considering that 1st would likely be at the very end of the round.

Helped, sure; but I don't see either of them as major factors in TB winning or losing the Cup. Both of them are completely expendable/replaceable. One of them has already passed though waivers, and the other might also if he was sent though.

Gourde's a far better player than Johnson though, even if his cap hit is a bit too big and much too big for TBL's liking. His advanced stats back that up too. Him being physically small isn't a knock shouldn't be a knock on him just as it isn't for a guy like Cam Atkinson or Vinnie Hinostroza.

Gourde too would pass through waivers bc league GMs are enjoying Tampa struggle in cap hell, as they should, but I'm just saying that's not a knock on him as a player. Johnson too to a lesser extent. It's a reflection of the cap crunch flat cap teams are dealing with, the very poor economy and limited finances, and ofc to screw Tampa over to maybe have a shot at offer sheeting Cirelli Serg Cernak or just bc it's funny. Or both.

I think these make sense for Tampa .. bite bullet now on TJ and Gourde .. HAVE to get rid of $20M and $26M respectively .. TJ part of "old Tampa" and Gourde a 3rd/4th line grinder making 4X too much ...clear skies if these 2 disappear ASAP and team will be BETTER than last year .. scary

I highly doubt that Johnson would waive to go to Detroit, and doubt even more that the Wings would take a late 2nd to eat $20 million over 4 seasons for a declining 30 year old forward that may not even crack their Top 6.
Considering that Tampa absolutely has to make moves to free up cap, they're going to get raked over the coals by any team they deal with. They have no leverage whatsoever, unfortunately for them.

Take more then a 2nd round pick to move Tyler Johnson's contract for 4 more years at $5 million per season, Gourde wont waive his full NTC and Minnesota would be foolish to take on his $5,166,666 contract.
