McDavid is a generation player Matthews is nowhere near McDavid level talent. He's an elite franchise talent but generational is debatable.

The problem is Detroit is starting/middle of a rebuild for a core of Larkin-Hronek-Seider-Zadina-Raymond so it doesn’t make sense to ship out tons of assets for Matthews who doesn’t make us a contender. The real question you should be asking is what team is on the cusp of contender that would trade for Matthews? I’m not knocking him as a player but trades have to be beneficial to both teams.
