Toews to CGY - what is the cost

Created by: justaBoss
Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 29, 2020
Published: Oct. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think in order for CGY to take a next step they need a solid 1C with experience. I think based on the market, Jonathan Toews would be the ideal guy, but I have no real clue on his value. It's obviously high, but how high? I'd like to hear some opinions...

Definitely not, especially not with 50% retained...

Yeah I think Hanifin is the starter. And maybe Rittich since they need a goalie.

they seem to be going after a weird mix players for the now and for the future so maybe Backlund, Pick, Prospect? Kylington could be a good piece to add as well

Dylan Strome for Buchnevich would be a great trade for Chicago imo.

Probably but if they were to trade Strome I can't see Toews moving which would ruin the meaning behind this post lol

For Jonathon Toews at 50% retention for the next 3 years, Probably more then what you're willing to pay.

Most likely but I'd still like to see some concrete ideas.

I would say Hanifin+Rittich would be the base package. Throw a 1st in, and then a decent prospect or two (not Pelletier or Zary, guys like Kylington/Phillips/Ruzicka/MEP/Zavgorodny). I don’t think that’s the play though, I’d rather only trade the latter half of that package (1st+a couple prospects) for a right shot top 6 scorer (like Palmieri). It also means we’d have to trade Ryan most likely. If we can do a Backlund+Rittich package plus a few picks/prospects that would be fantastic though.

Rittich doesn't move the bar at all. If the hawks are trading toews it means they're doing a legit full rebuild. So they won't be good for 4-5 years. Rittich doesn't fit that plan since he's already 28. Not to mention that he's not very good. Hanifin would be a starting point. Add a prospect you don't want to part with. If hawks retain half then you add a 1st and another good not great prospect.

Toes at 32 and his cap hit ain't getting you the kind of return people are trying to sell Toews for.

You will get a 1st, a younger roster player and a B prospect. Maybe a conditional pick that becomes a 1st with a Finals appearance.

Hanifin is a non-starter.
Pelletier is a non-starter.

1st + Bennett/Mangiapane + Kylingtoln is far more likely.

Hanifin ends the conversation before it starts. Zero chance Hanifin is moved before Valimaki proves himself and Hanifin at his age and contract for 4 years is worth as much or more than Toews at his age

Out of that D I daresay that Hanifin is the most likely guy to be moved.

Kylington is the most likely by a vast margin. But my point is we cannot afford to move a top 4 defenseman until we have someone ready to replace that player in the top 4. Valimaki is looking amazing in Finland right now, but that is still Liiga and not the NHL and considering he is still Calder eligible and hasn't played an NHL game in over 18 months, penciling him into the top 4 would be unwise to say the least.

Then Toews will never be traded. The guy is a 32 year old carrying a massive contract, he's not going to return a 1st, top prospect, a young top 4 defenseman and a 1B goalie like the terrible proposal you made initially.
