Habs final moves

Created by: JeffGorton
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 30, 2020
Published: Oct. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This should only occur if Danault does not sign an extension with the Habs by Training camp. If he does, Kovalchuk signing and Byron trades still happen. Maybe if Ylonen or Poehling impress at camp, someone like Armia is expendable

Rangers not giving up Kravtsov. Would have to be straight up a 1st and a 2nd for Danult

Habs cant trade Danault until you're sure what Suzuki and Kotkaniemi are and even then they wouuld stil need a veteran center in the line up. Cant have Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Poehling and Evans are your 4 centers, just to much risk involved. So if the young guys show they can handle top 6 minutes the Habs will try to sign Danault at a lower AAV or make him a rental deal at the deadline that likely gets you a 1st and prospect, not as good of one as kravtsov but a decent one all the same.

HAB fans keep posting Byron to Ottawa. Ottawa is not taking his contract unless you attach a HORRIFYING amount of sweetness, so stop. Just stop. A quick look at the UFAs that are still available should make it clear no one is paying to take Byron's contract. He's a useful player, but the $$ and term are too high. He would/will, 100%, without a doubt, clear waivers.

Montreal might have to add just a little more in the danult trade but the trade looks decent.

Ottawa won't acquire another forward especially someone with a ****ty contract.

Toronto will take that deal in a heartbeat

Kovy deal seems like an overpay. Montreal would probably rather spend that money on a center that will replace danult

Only a leaf fan would create a post that thinks Kerfoot has anything other than a completely unmovable contract. You can cue up the buyout or the retained salary transaction in short order.

Why? Kerfoot is still a very, very good third line centre/ 2LW.
That's wayyy under value for him.
Just because other Leaf fans are pawning him off for cap space doesn't mean he doesnt have value.

Alex Kerfoot: 222 GP, 43G, 70A, 113Pts
Nick Cousins: (Traded for a 4th) 324 GP, 41G, 57A, 98Pts
Blake Coleman: (Traded for a 1st and Nolan Foote) 246 GP, 57G, 38A, 95pts

As you can see, Kerfoot is worth more than a measly 3rd and fourth. If Coleman, who has less points in 24 more games, fetched a first and a nice prospect, Kerfoot should EASILY get a second round pick,AT LEAST!

Granted, Coleman is cheaper which boosts value, but coleman will make at least 3mil when he hits UFA.

Decent comps that you listed except for the other thing that matters these days: cap hit.

Kerfoot 3.5mm
Cousins 1.5mm
Colemean 1.8mm

So start by retaining half of Kerfoot's salary, and then you can talk about what you could get in a trade. Oh wait, Cousins just signed for $1.5mm as a UFA. Someone's going to take Kerfoot at $1.75mm and pay you EASILY a second round pick? Dude, you're making some of these Red Wings fans here look reasonable by comparison.

Thread starter opened their account 2 days ago. Habs fans. mmm hmm. nice try.

Im looking at cap hit also. Kerfoot has roughly the same stats as coleman, and costs 1.7 million more than him, meaning his value is lower than colemans. Still, if coleman got a first plus, kerfoot should get a second.

Coleman got a first plus pre-covid because players like him weren't available at that cap hit.
Post-covid, players like him (Nick Cousins) signs for a $1.5mm cap hit.

You made the perfect point against yourself using your own examples.

Either way, you need 50% of his cap hit retained (and probably at the deadline) before you can honestly contemplate any type of return.
