I'd definitely have Ellis in there, but overall the names in there are pretty similar to what I'd have (order aside) if I made a list.

Disagree strongly on McAvoy. One of the best two-way Dmen in the game, imo. Very solid defensively and he doesn't get enough credit for his production. 20th in 5v5 points among Dmen since entering the league and he's been blocked from top PP minutes due to the Bruins having one of the best QB's in the league in Krug. I think he's underrated right now, but with Krug gone, I think that's going to change after this season.

I totally expect him to make the top 20 list soon, I just don't think he's there yet over names like Provorov, Weber, Klingberg, Doughty (who actually had a good year despite +/-), Parayko, Ekblad, Ekholm, Ellis. The league is overflowing with top end defenseman right now, not making a top 20 list does not make you bad by any means.

Never accused you of saying he was bad, but in my opinion he's without a doubt deserving of a spot on this list. I'd take him over most of the guys you mentioned (especially Doughty, my god), but I'd also find room for a few of those guys in a top 20 list.

These lists are always subject to personal opinion, but for me:

-Carlson is a top 5 defenseman.
-Werenski is a top 10 defenseman.
-Makar, Hughes and Fox haven't accumulated enough games to be considered in the top 20. Fox isn't anywhere near the top 20.
-Contray to literally everyone on this website, Jones is definitely placed right towards the bottom of the list.

Also re: Doughty: he's not a top defenseman anymore. Being lazy doesn't make you a top defenseman.

McAvoy is not better than Parayko, Klingberg, Ekholm or Ellis. Not yet at least. I expect he will be in the future.

if you look at Letangs even strength minutes he spent 44.8% of the season with Jack Johnson, the worst D in the NHL. With JJ he only had 27.6% of his even strength point totals paired with him

if you look when he was paired with a legit D like Dumo, who he only spent 25.5% of his minutes with, and that accounted for 44.8% of his production. The fact that he was paired with JJ and still delivered a very solid season, gives me many reasons to believe with a solid D partner like a healthy Dumo, he will be even better.

And even based on last season, he was STILL a top 20 D, so you're out to lunch here.
