Isles probably wouldn’t want to do a 5 year deal. 2-3 years or 6+

This is just if they wanted to give him Max term. Locking him up for 8 years might be a good idea for the team. But I doubt Barzal wants 8 years.

They still don't have the $ to sign him for 6+ years.

Anything more than 3 years carries him to unrestricted free agency -- he turns 24 in May.

3 Year bridge still seems likely, at that time the cap should be back up and Barzal can ask for more than $10M.

exactly 2-3 year term makes him an RFA and then they can sign him long term. Can’t see them wanting to buy only 1 UFA year , which is why they’d want to go 6-8 years.

It is most likely but for the team not optimal. 10m to carry Barzal to 31 would be perfect. Signing a 3 year bridge and letting the cap go up could back fire.

It is a fair point, and I would be 100% in for getting Barzal locked up for 8 years. But at $10M that limits what they can do now, and unless they can move more salary I think Lou pushes for bridge.
