Johnson makes 5 million, so how do they save 11 million in cap space?

I'm not really sure how LTIR works but I don't think you can just put a player on LTIR and free up that much cap space. Also, @imawesome makes a good point. That doesn't save 11M.

Wrong Zetterberg being on LTIR doesn't save Tampa $11 million, First off for Tampa to get full value of Zetterberg on LTIR they'd need to be 10% over or roughly $8.15 million over the cap to utliize his full cap and that's not happening.

The deal I can see Stevie Yzerman making with Tampa is a 2022 seventh for Johnson, Cal Foote and the Lightning's 2021 first.

Both Max Bultman Red Wings beat writer with the Athletic and Joe Smith beat writer for the Tampa bay Lightning are heavily linking Tyler Johnson to Detroit. We shall see what happens. I'd do Tampa's 2021 1st round pick and Cal Foote for Johnson and Detroit sends Zetterberg to Tampa and maybe Erne as well.

Tampa still has to sign Cirelli and Cernak. Theyll be over the cap even after trading johnson. then they clear out zetterbergs contract by putting him on LTIR

By Yzerman dealing Zetterberg to Tampa, Give Julien BriseBois the flexibility to be over the cap by roughly $6.1 million. That should help BriseBois sign both Cernak and Cirelli and then give him some time to be cap compliant.

Then they can keep him, they are under a cap crunch and desperately need to get out from it. A first rounder which will be between pick 28-32 is not worth 4 years of 5M for a declining player. Lightning will give up a top prospect, a first and a 3rd or no deal and they can keep their cap situation. Just because wings have cap space doesn't mean we should use it on players that bog us down for 4 years at Terrible term. I'm fine with not trading for tj ever and keeping the space

Tampa will not be involving Foote to dump Johnson

Putting Zetterberg on LTIR doesn’t save them 6M because they also added him to their roster (6M) so it’s a wash. LTIR isn’t “free cap” in any sense, it actually hinders how you accrue cap space throughout the season. Capfriendly has a great CBA FAQ and you can also create a TB ACGM and throw this trade in to see the cap implications.

Who do you think that they're going to be protecting in the expansion draft?

4 forwards and 4 defense. Foote will be exposed but they likely plan to play him on the 3rd pair this year

My feeling is that if Foote is exposed, Foote will be taken.

Maybe, Foote hasn't proven anything yet and I'm pretty certain Seattle will have a stacked d-core without Foote. Also Tampa can just bribe them to take someone else
