My Seattle Kraken roster 10

Created by: nalzugaray12
Team: 2020-21 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 4, 2020
Published: Dec. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
*ASSUMING NO TRADES ARE MADE*

I think we can all agree that Dumba to the Kraken more than likely isn't happening. Gotta assume Guerin will trade him, but for right now I have them selecting him.

Let me know how this team is. If I selected a certain player that you see your favorite team protecting, let me know and I will adjust accordingly.

I don't think this team does as good as Vegas, but I guess you never really know anymore lol. Vegas made the right moves where they were gifted Marchesseault and Smith from Florida and selected a gem in William Karlsson. Those 3 players are prominent in their top 6 and Seattle is going to have to find some of that "luck". Regardless though, this Seattle team has a lot of good talent available.

CAPTAINS

"A"- Tyler Johnson
"A"- Mikael Backlund
"A"- David Savard

Not a Colorado fan. But IMO they'd protect Rantanen, MacKinnon, Burakovksy, Kadri + Johnson (NMC), Girard, Toews, Makar + Francouz.

Leaving Nichushkin and Graves as most likely picks (assuming Landeskog signs after draft)

I guess you're right. How many at most do you see them taking? 5?

You're probably right. However Erik Johnson has a NMC, so you're assuming he will waive that, right? I'll make the change now

With a future of flat caps these players may honestly consider signing with a team that has money.

I would be satisfied with them taking Benson! Would rather one of Neal, or Kassian, but I’m not complaining.

Minnesota and Nashville do a 4/4 split Nashville protects Duchene, Johansen, Arvidsson, Forsberg, Ekholm, Fabbro, Ellis, Josi, Minnesota protects Dumba, Brodin, Suter, Spurgeon, Zuccarello, Parise, Fiala and Eriksson Ek

He won't waive, that's why I've got him among 8 protected.

missed that. Regardless, I changed Devon Toews for Ryan Graves. Can't really go wrong with Nichushkin vs Graves

thanks for the feedback. I agree with you about Nashville, it didn't feel right taking Ekholm from them. As for Minny, I have a feeling Dumba will be the guy traded

As I'm tinkering with the Exp draft tool. I wonder if the required games number gets dropped.

The 40/70 rule was for 82 games seasons. So for example a player would have to play half of the prior season to hit the exposure requirement.

But this draft will be completed after two shortened seasons. So 40/54 (the possible new number) = 75% (way different)

So wonder if the 40/70 rule changes to a 30/60 (or something closer to this).

Probably not even 5. Its a risk they dont have to take. Theyll have an opportunity to sign them probably less than 2 weeks later (not exactly sure on the timeline of it all) if they wanted to sign in Seattle anyway.

I mean yeah, they might consider it, but if they were gonna consider it then Seattle could just sign them in UFA anyway. Its a risk they dont need to take.

I believe LA will also go 8 and 1: Kopitar, Kempe, Iafallo, Clague, Doughty, Roy, Walker, and in my opinion Lias Andersson.

I'm surprised you wouldn't select Jake Allen over Joel Armia. I think that they'll take 4 goalies to give them some immediate depth.

They need to create an environment for players to want to play there and grabbing expiring contracts is a better method in my opinion. You can start negotiating sooner

Thanks for the feedback, I was very close protecting 8 skaters for LA but decided not to. I'm personally not sold on Lias Andersson, I guess he's a player we're gonna have to wait and see how he does with L.A this season. Matt Roy is a fine player, but I don't think L.A is desperate to keep him. Protecting 8 skaters means that they can't protect guys like Trevor Moore, Blake Lizotte, Carl Grundstrom, etc and these young forwards are prioritized in L.A for now

As for Montreal, I strongly believe Armia is an underrated winger and would be a nice get for Seattle. Allen is a great backup, but Montreal has forwards/defensemen unprotected that Seattle should definitely consider.

It would be better for them to not take them, especially when there are better players to take with more control on half of those teams. The only players who it would be worth it to take the risk on are Savard and Raanta

Don't forget that by taking a UFA goalie (Raanta), you may have only Holtby and Gustavsson two weeks after the expansion draft.

I don't think Rob Blake is any more disposed to paying a second for one year of Lias Andersson than Joe Sakic is to paying two seconds for one year of Devon Toews. Real GMs plan ahead when making roster moves like that.

Your construction reminds me of an iceberg: you should realize that a small part of your post is getting comment, but the vast majority is well thought out. For example, I can find no fault with 21 of your 30 selections (I, too, don't like picking UFAs).

Looking at Ottawa - they may ask the league if they can do 9 FWD + 1 DEF.

And Seattle would likely still take a fwd from them.

Calgary may end up losing a very good FWD if Lucic declines to waive his NMC.

That would be kind of entertaining.

COL is doing 7-3-1, if EJ doesn’t waive they’ll buy him out. Also they will protect Grubauer regardless. The Avs know they will lose one of Graves, Compher, Donskoi, Nichushkin or Francouz. The general consensus is they know they will lose a decent player but they want a contract taken not an expired guy which offers no cap relief. And if Grubauer were exposed Seattle would jump on that imo
