Trade Deadline Trade

Created by: AJC13
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2021
Published: Jan. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I believe Buchnevich will have a very good season and will be on pace for 60 plus points by the trade deadline. Which means he might price himself off the team because of the cap situation the Rangers are going to be in two years from now (after this season and next season) in 2022-2023.

Don't believe the Rangers would want to sign Buchnevich after this season and then trade him. I would think his trade value would be higher as a RFA. Ideally the Rangers would keep Buchnevich for the full season and trade him at next years draft. But because the expansion draft preludes the amateur draft, it might be better to trade him for the standard Player+Prospect +Pick at the trade deadline and be able to protect one more forward from Seattle. Especially if Kravtsov plays well after he returns to the NHL/AHL when the KHL concludes. And if Barron impresses this season at the NHL/AHL.

I also believe the Rangers will Trade DeAngelo when his contract expires in two years and he's a RFA, ideally before the 2022 amateur draft. For the same reason I believe Buchnevich gets traded. To make room for the free agents in 2022-2023. But the Rangers need DeAngelo for the next two full years until the deep defenseman prospect pool is ready to replace him.

Strome I'm starting to think won't get traded... Don't believe his traded value is anywhere close to how valuable he is to the Rangers. If teams are only going to offer not much more than a 2nd round pick for Strome, it's probably better to keep him until his contract expires and maybe resign him as a UFA if the price and term are right or just let him walk.

I agree. Buchnevich and/or Barron would have to be playing like they belong in the NHL. If they aren't, probably best to have Buchnevich on the top line all season and then trade him after the expansion draft or instead resign him.

I honestly do not believe NYR could pull a first rounder for buch who really hasn't shown much of being a star on a team.

I believe NYR might have offered Buchnevich for Danault this offseason, but Montreal declined. Will Danault be traded this trade deadline and if so, would it be for a similar package as I'm proposing for Buchnevich?

The trade I'm proposing assumes Buchnevich is on pace for 60 plus points at this years trade deadline.

Even though Danault is a UFA, I still think he would get a bit more than Buch in a trade. Though at this point, I don't see Danault being traded this season unless MTL sh*ts the bed (which I don't see happening)

Not the season to trade Buch when you are worried about a contract. The deals this "summer" were extremely low. You could see Buchnevich have a career year and not get a huge bump.

If he doesnt have a great season, you'd still need Kravtsov or Gauthier (plus Kakko) show they can be the top 6 RWs the team needs.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. Maybe with not so high a bump in salary the Rangers could resign him.

55 point pace last season and defensively responsible, he doesn't have to be a star, he does very well in his secodary scoring role

Oilers pass. Don't even consider this. They could get a much better player for that package. IF they trade there first it will be for a goalie.

A 60 point pace is 1.07 P/GP though, nearly double his career average. Do you think that's reasonable?

No! My bad, I meant on pace for 60 plus points over an 82 game schedule. So for this season it would average out to Buchnevich having about 0.75.

I like Mcleod, thought maybe that after he didn't put up the best numbers last season EDM would be more inclined to include him in a trade.

Mcleod was in the minors last year and played in switzerland this summer. He is touted as the Oilers' future 3C. They haven't figured out who is playing 4C this year yet either so it could be a good start for him.

Oh, that makes more sense. I don't know enough about Buchnevich to comment on the value... maybe a tad high considering he doesn't have a contract beyond this season. I think Edmonton would be more likely to give up a B+ left defense prospect rather than McLeod, not sure if that's of any interest to NYR.

I believe by the trade deadline this season Buchnevich's trade value will increase significantly. He developing into very good player and he's eliminated any holes in his game.

The Rangers weakest part of their prospect pool is center. So the Rangers would ideally want a center prospect. But would probably take a good prospect at any position.

Thank you for your comments! It's great that I could post a trade suggestion from the Rangers point of view and get feedback from EDM fans and their point of view.

Hold up, I did not see the 1st round pick. Not sure if I missed it or it was edited after. Oilers gotta be no in that case. McLeod is one of our more developed forward prospects, who imo has decent value on his own. I'm generally against trading 1sts, especially when you aren't getting a great player in return. Buchnevich is good and no doubt a top 6 winger, but he has done anything insane, that would warrent a good prospect and 1st rounder from the Oilers perspective.

Having said that, Goodrow and Coleman both netted a 1st, so the value probably isn't that crazy, just doesn't make sense for the Oilers. Gotta extend guys like Nuge, Nurse and Yamamoto in the next 2 years. If we are moving a 1st, I would prefer it be for someone team controlled on a fair contract. Adding Buchnevichs contract to the mix just complicates that,

It's going to be hard enough fitting nudge and defense under the cap I can't see them trading for anything except a tender.
