Will give you Ryan Strome for future considerations if it means our coach finally stops playing him with Panarin/trying to make him a 2C lol

We need a two-way C who can win draws on the PK, Strome ain't it.

Strome's contract also makes it a non-starter since it runs into next year.

That would be a real nice addition, especially seeing as he plays an energy game which would replace what we've lost by Calvert being out indefinitely.

There were some AGM's a couple of days ago featuring trades involving Graves/Compher and Copp/Lowry. Stastny was also discussed too. Winnipeg have great C depth but need help on D, so there's seemingly a good fit there that could help both teams.

I'd do that trade. Avs don't have a 2nd rounder until 2023 though. I'd also prefer if it was Gilbert being included. Pateryn's RHS on the PK is useful as insurance whenever Johnson is out.

After tonight's game, the Kings are in the market for a RHD. Don't think LA would be willing to wait until 2023 for a draft pick, so maybe a B prospect instead.

How about Beaucage, Ranta, or Mutala instead of a 2nd, plus Pateryn, for Carter 50% retained?

I'd also be curious if LA would entertain moving Kempe if Timmins/Graves/Kaut are dangled as traid bait.

Don't think any of those prospects would get it done. Helleson maybe, as the Kings could use some RHD depth.

I don't think the Kings have any interest in moving Kempe right now. He's playing his best hockey ever and is a key part of the Kings moving forward.

Ew, have some respect for Carter. He's worth more than that in the lockerroom and he's doing great right now.

You guys take that and run. I can't believe that asking price was from one of the more popular Kings fans on here.

Lol, you're right we do haha

Carter would be a nice add for us at 3C for two cup runs, particularly as he can switch to RW when Newhook joins next year.

What would you be willing to give up for Carter? He would not retire btw thats all BS. Maybe if Columbus is the destination, but that'll never happen lol

Hmm good question. I find it hard to gauge what he's worth given his age. Due to our capstructure we'd also have to ask for like 50% retention unless you take a contract like Donskoi off our hands, so that complicates things. It's difficult to know what retention is worth in this league due to the flat cap.

It probably isn't unfair for LA to ask for a late 1st for him I suppose. But I think we'd need to see how he does between now and the deadline to determine if he's worth a 1st or not. Recency bias is important after all, especially with a guy who's 36 years old.

Maybe like a 2nd + Kaut sort of deal would work. I'm not sure though. There aren't really any good comparables for a 36 year old rental with 2 year term.

Sure. I'll start by making a stylistic comparable to give you an idea: Jakob Silfverberg.

Kaut is a rugged RW who plays a very "NHL" game. Physical along the boards, two-way, and has a good wrist shot. He had a great WJC on a line with Necas, also playing the bumper position on the PP where he scored a couple of nice goals.

Since being drafted his progression has been a bit of a slow burn, but that isn't to say that he has stalled. He's the type of player who elevates his play with talented guys around him, as he doesn't play an individualistic style but rather one that involves using his teammates a lot. For that reason he didn't put up as many points as expected in the AHL, since the AHL is very individualistic with everyone wanting to get called up to the big leagues; that didn't help him. The vast majority of his points are primary points.

Kaut got 9 games last season in his callup and looked like he belonged in the NHL, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist. Sakic is counting on him to compete for a roster spot this season. He's in the 1st year of his ELC which makes his contract extremely valuable given that he'll likely be in our bottom 6 with some frequency this season.

He got called up for our last game but only got 5:50 in TOI after Bednar shortened the bench as we were chasing the game. It also didn't help that he took a lazy neutral zone penalty which is rather uncharacteristic of him either.

With all that said, I think you'll find that Avs fans would be willing to move him in the right deal, but given that he's our only high end winger prospect with 3 years of an ELC it would have to be the right deal. We'd MUCH rather use our collection of picks and B prospects to make a deal instead.

I'd rather use one or even two of Ranta/Foudy/Beaucage. Maybe even Barron or Helleson. Kaut is NHL ready and that ELC is worth it's weight in gold. Filling a 3rd line role for the next 2-3 years with a guy making under $1m has so much value to a contender, so it's hard to justify moving him.

2nd+Kaut for Carter 50% retained is an overpayment from COL.

I personally like the idea of Pateryn+Ranta+3rd for the guy the most.

That's an underpayment and you don't watch hockey therefore you know absolutely nothing about Carter and how good he's playing.

LA have a tonne of good forward prospects, in fact most say their forward pool is the best in the league.

That being the case I doubt a prospect like Ranta really moves the needle much for them.
