Help me out please with Deangelo

Created by: Root
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2021
Published: Feb. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No one took Deangelo for FREE! so i know a bad contract has to come back so i'm asking the nice fine people here to make a trade in the comments in which will help both teams. Also want to point out if a team wanted to try Deangelo out this year and it doesn't work out and with Deangelo being so young a buyout in June for the remaining 1 year contract is very cheap like 380k. Anyways if nothing works out the Rangers will be buying him out this summer.

It's really about the money. If he was claimed ADA's contract was expensive. Let's say you are a team like Toronto and feel like the locker room can tolerate his BS and have a need for another right handed D. Rather than picking up the contract you can trade a guy like Kerfoot who isn't worth his contract but can play center with a 1st or 2nd (remember picks are worth less this year as scouts can't really do their job and it's a crapshoot) for ADA and rangers retain 1.5 mil. That is the type of deal you are looking at. Rangers can potentially get a first if they can help someone with cap flexibility.

Rangers will not get a first for Deangelo. No one wanted him for free, remember.

4/30 teams could afford to claim him for "free"... It doesn't mean a bad contract has to come back, just that money has to come back. If the option is to take a bad contract back or buy him out then this should be a very obvious choice... BUY OUT.

Montour for DeAngelo

this would be the exact type of scenario that would allow the Rangers to make a move.
if only Montour could play the left side...

i NEVER agree with anything you say - this would be a first, it should be documented.

Niku would instantly have a spot on our third pair and personally I feel like Winnipeg has mismanaged his development. I'd absolutely do this.

Two things 1) The first isn't worth as much in previous years. Elliott and Marek openly wondered if we are going to see more moved this year because the kids couldn't play or couldn't be scouted. Especially if you are hoping to pick 31. 2) It's also about getting out of the Kerfoot contract a year earlier than a DeAngelo contract and giving you roster/buyout flexibility. So it's not just about getting the player it's also about managing the cap.

Are you saying the 4 teams that can afford him are the teams showing enough cap space on the CapFriendly's home page?

Nope that is not what I am saying... Every team can afford him if they have the ability to move money out as well... Claiming him off waivers however would have needed cap space to just add him.. Hope that's more clear. So if a team can afford to add 4.2M or whatever his cap hit is at now that x amount of days are off the books then they could have claimed him.

But isn't that very easy this season because of the taxi squad? I'm not 100% sure but you move a player or 2 to the taxi squad claim Deangelo then you could move him to the taxi squad till you moved money around.

Entry level contracts are easy to move to taxi squad and back because they are waiver exempt. Most players in the league have to go through waivers to be on the taxi squad where they themselves could be claimed.. So if TOR for example put Hyman on taxi to claim ADA they would likely lose Hyman to another team in doing so. Moving Okposo to taxi squad would be fine as he likely wouldn't be claimed but then you have to remember that moving him there only frees up 1.075M is space and then you can't bring him back for a long time unless there's LTIR or trades in the near future

But Kerfoot isn't that bad. He's a bit overpaid, but he doesn't have negative value. Wouldn't do him for Deangelo strait up. The first is not worth the 1 mil retained. So, not a chance leafs trade a first for Deangelo, no matter how worthless because of a poor draft.
