Nope. TB already got rid of ADA once. And for a lousy return.

There's a reason why no teams want him.

Super cheap buyout, just saying.

If it's for Johnson without adding anything big I'd consider. RD is bad right now and if he plays (or acts) bad send him to the AHL and buy him out next year.

Take your obvious bias out of the equation; it’s already been reported by dredger that there is significant interest in him. Teams that are just couldn’t afford to claim him on waivers. Rangers will have to retain or take a bad contract back. Johnson’s contract is horrible because of the length, and how much it costs to buy out. ADA can be given an opportunity this year or be bought out for ridiculously cheap this summer. It’s a plus for Tampa either way, as they either get a good ADA or they get out of Johnson’s contract for pennies on the dollar (considering the buy out cost difference). It’s a good hockey trade.
And ADA was traded for 37th overall for a defenseman that was highly regarded at the time (Hajek who NYR now have unfortunately). Considering he didn’t “break out” at the NHL level yet it’s understandable why he didn’t go for more. He put up 50+ points last year as a defenseman, that holds weight regardless of the situation

Thoughts were on a 3/4 round pick with a possibility of upgrading to a 2/3 depending on performance or games played

I suppose there's a certain logic behind this trade. Regardless, I'm worried a swap as such is detrimental to Tampa's good spirited locker room.

Frankly though I think both teams would be declining the trade. As you said, TJ contract is bad due to it's length. NYR would probably be better off keeping ADA's contract for a year and buying it out in the summer.

Furthermore, I don't think TJ is waiving his NTC to go to NYR, simply because of their lackluster performance. Players rarely agree to go from a top5 team to a bottom5 one.

Take every single idiotic thing that ADA has done, plus his inability to play defence out of the equation here.

Tampa wants (needs?) to move Johnson at some point. Why? Because they need to clear cap space. Subtracting Johnson adding ADA doesn’t do that.

That’s the one and only reason that anyone needs to think about when they’re considering a Johnson for ADA swap.

If they are that desperate for cap space the buyout savings is there. Plus, DeAngelo is signed for two less years.

And our lousy return is now on the Rangers tears of joy

Anyway, another factor is Johnson still has a full NTC. He won't waive in the middle of the season.

Fine. No one wants his full contract should be more apt way to describe it. Some team might agree to give him a chance with an extremely favorable deal.

Tampa isn't taking ADA back, Reportedly he didn't want to play there. And Tampa didn't like his attitude. That why he was moved in the first place.

Tampa has one of the most tight knit dressing rooms in the NHL. And they're performing. Why would you want to risk that? Especially since you're not adding any help on the back end. Rutta, Schenn are better defensively and Foote has a higher ceiling both offensively and defensively.

Tampa doesn't need help scoring which is the only thing ADA does.
