Description
NYI needs a bit of a wake up call and some defensive help.

Taking the Coleman trade example and bringing a two year under $2M rental to boost their top4 pairs.

NYI does have a slot for a top4 D to protect in the expansion draft...Mayfield or Aho are not that huge losses for the team, should they get picked.

CHI loads up some great future assets in the exchange to bolster their rebuild.

What would the price on Mayfield be before the Expansion draft?

It depends on NYI's performance before trade deadline. If they're in the playoff race, I don't see him moving. They need the guy as a depth asset for that playoff run.

If they suck...that might change things.

As much as the Isles want to get rid of Komarov and his contract, this trade doesn't work for a couple reasons.

Trading essentially two first round picks for a Connor Murphy, a top 4 defenseman, does not make sense after they were forced to trade a solid, home grown top 4 defenseman in Devon Toews for two second round picks. Poor asset management.

I understand by including Komorav as a cap dump the price will go up, but this is too high.

The Isles are solid on the right side with Pulock and Dobson. I'm not sure adding another RD is the "shake up" they need. Mayfield has value in his role, #4 Dman, stay at home guy and solid PKer.

Fair enough for this year, but what about in the offseason?

It doesn't necessarily have to be Murhpy, or even a RHD. Ideally just thinking a cheap multi-year D is what this team is lacking. Losing both Toews and Boychuk is showing.

As said in the description, I used the Coleman trade as a sort of example, although I added a cap dump there.

Some complementary picks...2nd or 3rd? I dunno really. That contract is nice and cheap and the player's decent as well.

Losing boychuk was addition by subtraction. Losing toews hurts but Dobson has done a solid job replacing him. Toews is still the better D, but by the end of this season dobson will likely be better than toews.

Our problem isn’t so much defense but lack of scoring I would consider that trade for a top six winger but not for a defenseman

NYI don't really need centers, although the value's ok.
