Granted this is from Rossi so take it with a pinch... Maybe even more of Salt. But that to me reads as though one of the big 3 isnt unmoveable and they may even be looking to move him to "Re-Tool" the back 6? So these trades are strictly made based off of the idea that Letang is moved.

This is NOT based on him having these great advanced stats or anything of that ilk so save your "He isnt being traded." Comments as this is all hypothetical as is.

Note:
Pettersson deal happens in the offseason and Matheson is given to Seattle along with a second round pick in 2022 to ensure they take him

Where is this Holl for Letang stuff coming from? Everyone including half of Leaf fans called him a #6 defenceman at best and now Pens fans want him over Letang? While I do think Letang is still great, Holl is a shutdown guy who fits perfectly with Muzzin and is cheaper and younger. Holl is making himself indespensible

Strictly going on speculation and what we have heard coming from Hextall since he was hired. He wants to re-tool around Sid/Geno while building up prospects. I dont disagree Holl might be indespensible from your guys end. This was the best fit I could make on your guys roster without moving bigger pieces and for the next season or two I think Hextall is going to horde/desire more draft capital then immediate NHL return in terms of trades.

Holl fits more of a need (as a defensive defenseman on a shutdown pairing with Muzz) and is cheaper, but none the less, leafs would be foolish to turn this down.

It would be wise for him to do so. I think Letang would get a better return elsewhere though.

I don't think so, it makes the cap situation for Rielly more difficult after next season.

main issue we cant afford Letang anyways lul. Now if Penguins called and offered Marino for Holl than for sure I would jump on that train as Muzzin-Marino would be a solid shutdown pair

Where are the Leafs going to pull $5 million in cap space out of nowhere?

Not a bad idea. Felt Pettersson would be a good fit in ottawa given age and contract cost

And that is why Marino is not going anywhere lol, him and POJ are going to be our top pairing going forward and as someone who has loved watching POJ since he was in the minors and AHL Im really looking forward to the magic that pairing can make going forward.

To be honest, I'm being a bit of a jerk here.

There's no room for Pettersson in Ottawa this season with Chabot, Brannstrom, Reilly, Wolanin, Coburn

Or next season with Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin, and 2020 5th overall Jake Sanderson likely to in the mix as well

I can't seem to convince some Pens fans that Ottawa is not a good destination for Pettersson anymore, with Brannstrom and Zub on the roster now. I figured if the Calgary fans chimed in with the same comments that there's no room in Calgary with Giordano, Hanifin, and Valimaki, maybe the Pens fans who can't seem to understand Ottawa's situation, would finally get a clue and look for a team that needs a LD.

In fairness to a lot of us in the states its a lot harder to watch Canadian teams especially this year. While some like myself have ESPN+ and can watch more games from up north with that plus NHL Network and NBCSN its still not as many games to get a good feel for needs so I can fully accept responsibility for that. To be honest another destination I had looked at for Pettersson was for the Kings given their overhaul is getting "Closer" to completion.

how does moving MP for a couple picks help the team win?
by the time those picks get here Crosby will be 36 years old. They are never going to do that.
Even if them moved him, which probably isn't happening, the y aren't doing it for so little and most definitely not picks.
As for the Letang trade, they could do far better. A+ prospect and a 1st at minimum if they moved him.

Letang has 1 year left on his contract after this season, he is being traded for 2 seconds, a top 4 Dman with longer term at cheaper cost and one of the Leafs top 5 prospects who in turn would end up as one of ours.

As for the Pettersson move again Hextall is our GM and he wants to draft/develop and fill up the pipeline while retooling. And while he isnt bad he definitely hasnt looked as comfortable in PGH over the past season or so. Hextall is going to target free agency more then he will be targeting the trade market for at least the first couple of years.

Letang would easily get an A+ prospect and a 1st. Even as a rental.
Those are late round 1st they don't hold much value. And Der-Arguchintsev is not an A+ prospect, 2 2nds is not a 1st, and Holl is not a top 4 Dman.

Again, If they moved Pettersson they are doing better than that.
