If Pettersson signs for 8.6, Hughes and Demko sign bridge deals at 7mil and 3mil, and Gaudette signs at 1.25mil. Signing Podkolzin gives them a roster size of 15 and 8.5mil in cap space, which is enough to fill out the remaining spots. There is no way that OS deters the Canucks from signing Pettersson.

Have you seen the Canucks this year? They are also going to be active on the UFA market. So yes, homegrown talent is huge, but to compete do they just worry about home grown talent or actual use the UFA market. The UFA market signings could force the hand on Elias.

Easy no from calgary

I disagree as the Flames have been looking to move Monahan the past 18 months. He's been involved in trade talk since summer 2019. Calgary would love to get their hands on Reinhart.

They aren't gonna be active on the FA market if it means letting their franchise center walk, that should be pretty obvious

Really? I don't follow trade rumors much. Would he work well with Gaudreau though? Or would Lindholm move to center him and Reinhart do 2nd. I will make flames side for the next 1-2 years

I don't hate the penguins trade. I mean anything is better than Janko at this point.

Welcome to CapFriendly. The speed with which you learn will depend on how much you are willing to listen to other viewpoints.

Better teams in better cities will offer more money to Elias Pettersson (I'm thinking particularly of Boston and Miami); Coleman, Landeskog and even Martinez will get more attractive offers; and why would Las Vegas trade a guy who's a top-6 RW right now for a prospect yet to show he's NHL quality and a first-round pick that won't be an actual player until 2023?

I think you should look at the Rasmus Andersson signing to get an idea f what Dahlin and Jokiharju are likely to get.

And that's without even considering that the day after announcing that Eichel trade, half the season ticket holders would cancel their reservations.

Wood is now 25 and just now hitting his stride and prime. Wood has also been used in a 4th line role for most of his NHL tenure. Devils are now using him in a second line role this year and he's produced 8 pts in 10 games. He also plays a strong 2 way game, is physical and has size. Something this Sabres team lacks.

Zacha is 23, still a year or 2 away from entering his prime. He too, used in a 3rd or 4th line role the past 3 seasons. He is a 2C in this league.

Foote can has a similar development to Wood which would be fine. The Sabres have not developed a good bottom 6 forward of their own, who can put up 30-35 points in the past decade. Foote is a 2LW/RW in this league by age 25.

Hughes and Hirschier are sexy names, but are they what the Sabres need? The answer is no. Thats what Botterill and Murray failed to do is draft and trade for what the Sabres need. I think Adams recognizes need. Wood, Zacha, Foote would fill needs on the team. They bring size, 2 way game, grit and scoring. The Sabres have not had players that can do all those things throughout this rebuild.

The 2022 and 2023 1st's allow you to draft more skill players.

I know who Wood and Zacha are, but they shouldn't be Eichel's comeback as a main part. I mean we won't get a Pettersson and we will need centers. Also I don't understand how Hughes or Hischier will be the wrong parts? Hischier is a good two-way center, although not an elite like Matthews or Eichel.

I think you need to have some optimism if your a Sabres fan. I think also as a Sabres fan you need to stop overvaluing Jack and Sam. Neither have won **** in this league and neither have lived up to their true potential. Whether that is their fault or the Sabres management is yet to be determined.

I do not overestimate them, but that does not mean that we should sell cheap and especially be optimistic about such matters. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Saying this as Devils fan, Sabres can get more for Eichel.

Wood.....has tantalizing mix of size, speed, grit...but man, he will break your heart on a 2nd line. He flies in a straight line, but little east-west (can only play left side), will produce the occasional bone-headed turnover, and often takes pointless penalties. I'm sure he will someday have a 30-goal season or two, but be cautious.
Zacha.....he is a good two-way 3c on a good team. Can also either play wing, and provide a little more offense there. But I think his point production will peak ~50-55 pts...but probably 40-45 most other seasons. Consider him a solid, two-way 3c.
Foote.....great shot, will be power play 1 guy for many years and probably 2LW. Not a game-breaker for 5v5 unless the skating improves.

(And the 2022 and 2023 1st round picks will be #32 overall grimace )

Sabres fans overvalue Jack. He is a great player, but never finished Top 10 in points, never been to the playoffs, never been considered for MVP. He's a number 1C and would be an MVP candidate on right team. Getting 2 firsts, Wood who is developing into a 2LW and Zacha who can be a 2C or 3C when Cozens is ready is a huge return already. Then getting Nolan Foote who will become a strong power foward with a 2 way game and can be a Top 6 is more than enough value.

That return is ****ty and you don't watch or pay enough attention to hockey for me to continue with this conversation. I mean all your arguments he did last year, he was top ten in point and considered for MVP, I mean they would have made the playoffs if they where allowed to catch up to the amount of games MTL played ...
