To be fair, I don't think any of the teams in the North division are contenders at this point. However, one team is guaranteed to make the Conference Finals, and Montreal has as much of a chance as the other Canadian teams to make it. Might as well make a run and hope it goes well, then blow it up when the divisions go back to normal.

I would be surprised in Bergevin admits to a "rebuild". He's been GM for nine years, his teams have accomplished little. By firing the coach (he he hired), he's pointing the finger at someone else. Gotta think he has to go with the basically the players he has. Just make the playoffs and take your chances in the northern division.

Lol not surprised a leaf fan undervalued every single trade chip.
Don't worry Pitts won't make the playoffs

it cost a 2nd to get rid of 5.75 million of MAF, it's gonna cost a fortune to get anyone to touch that price deal

yeah yeah i agree with that but i feel like they have way too much expectations on this season. Like the media and i don't know if bergevin himself or the owner feel like they can win the cup this year and i doon't think so, they might make the playoffs maybe but with their cap status and their young players i feel they need to make a quick retool/rebuild to get young players or picks and build around suzuki and kk

After the kind of money habs spent this past offseason I can’t see them diving into a rebuild.

Not being a contender doesn't mean selling low on valuable assets, which is what you did with Tatar, Danault, Lehkonen/Armia. Could get much more for them.

They should have high expectations cause they made some good moves over the summer. But I kinda think they blew it by signing Gallagher and Petry to those extensions. As good as they are, do you want those aging players taking up that cap starting in 21/22. Gee, if there was going to be a rebuild of some sort, the Habs could have traded Petry and Gallagher this year for futures and then had over 12m in additional cap next year.

Great way to rebuild... Trade away the whole team and get nothing in return. Very smart moves.
