I understand people liking Sandin, Amirov, and Robertson. I don’t understand why Liljegren, and Niemela are on your top prospect spot.

liljegren is arguably just as good as sandin, and niemela has potential to be the best of the three

i highly doubt you actually watch any of these three prospects actually play, i understand that you think that the leafs are not aloud to have good prospects. did you watch niemela play at the world juniors?

That’s not true at all! Sandin is way better than both of those two. Liljegren sucks. Bottom pair will be his highest. Niemela could push for being a B prospect but who knows.

Yup. None of the guys listed are true “top prospects”. They aren’t a Zegras/Couzins/Byfield/Drysdale/Bryan etc... not even close

Your rankings are the reason why more than half of the population doesn’t agree with you about Niemela, and Liljegren. I hope some leaf fans are more realistic and don’t think the same.

Niemela made it to Liga at 17 years old and was playing ahead of guys that were older than him. Thats a huge accomplishment especially on the team he is on as their coach is one of the toughest and usually does not let rookies play much. He has been promised a top 4 role with that team next season which shows how good he is. Niemela was also was best Dman at the WJC this year beating out Sanderson, Drysdale, Samberg and Byram to name a few.

Liligren is still a solid prospect. His development has taken some time but he went from strictly an offensive Dman to a 2-way dman. Thats not an easy transition. Fully expect him to be full time on the team next season unless moved.

Robertson compares with alot of those guys. Robertson was drafted in the 2nd round but basically performed well enough to join the leafs for the playoffs. If it wasnt for the injury I have a feeling Keefe would have played him to where his first elc year was burned. Hes already showed hes to good for the AHL with 2 goals and 7 assists in 10 games and despite another injury was doing pretty well.

Byfield is looking pretty rough rn for a 2OA guy

Robby is definitely the leafs best prospect, but he’s not in the tier that I listed

I think a lot of people would disagree about Robertson being definitely the Leafs top prospect. The top 3 (Sandin, Robertson, Amirov) all have a good portion of people who would place them at #1 - and there are solid arguments to be made for each guy. Regardless, though, none are in the Zegras, etc tier.

Niemela is a good defence man, but not a A prospect that’s for sure. We will see if he actually makes the jump to the top 4, I doubt it. Liljegren just sucks. Let’s be real here, he’s 21, and hasn’t really impressed at all in my eyes. He will be nothing more than a bottom pair.

Some prospects take time to develop it does not mean they suck, Liligren is 21 and has been improving his game year after year. Look at Kaprisov. Drafted in 2015 and 5 years later is now playing in the NHL did he suck or was labeled bad because he didnt make it to the NHL till 5 years no. Hes beating out Lafreniere who was drafted 1OA for the Calder rn. Liligren has gotten better and better and has improved his game significantly from straight on offense to a 2-way game. He took a big step last year having 30 points in 40 AHL games and hes only going to get better. Would not be surprised if he graduates for 2021-2022 season

I’m bias I love Robby but I think he’s the #1 guy there, but you’re right, I’ve heard a mix of all 3. Although I think Robby is the most popular choice

By the time these prospects prove be good or not, no one here will remember this discussion.
Here is how I would rank the Leafs prospects based on what I have seen with my eyes, more so than pedigree or reports.
Robertson
Niemela
Sandin
Liljegren

I would not rank Rodion Amirov in that group. Niemela looks great. Liljegren has looked really good this year, edging back into the discussion.

I would. Amirov is good! Liljegren is bad in my opinion, and Niemela is okay. They both are definitely not top prospects. Sandin is and Robertson is a B+ prospect. I respect your opinion, but I don’t agree at all.

This is an odd thing to say. Every team has top prospects that other teams would value highly. You just named some of the top prospects in the league. Those are blue chip prospects that really don't get traded, unless they are for something elite.

Well my criteria to be a “top prospect” is clearly a lot higher than yours. Leafs have good prospects, but none are in the same class as the guys I named

Yeah fair enough, I understand your point. Was just trying to say that means only the very select teams that have been bad have top prospects. Teams like Toronto probably will not have that. Their elite level guys like Matthews are playing.
