I mean, I don't think Colorado looks at that lol. Unless they get lucky not one of those pieces will have even close to as much of an impact on the org as Byram will. Also hes on an ELC for two more years which is super high value.

Care to explain why a cup contending team that has had excellent cap management to this point would do this?

the only saving piece of that byram trade is the 2022 1st. wild 1st could be a top pick.

because then they have an already proven top 4 defenceman with half salary retained in dumba, plus assets in which they can flip for an elite goalie. someone like john gibson, which they desperately need. on top of that, they would be even more of a contender at this moment because byram has only played 19 career nhl games and isnt fully developed.

You literally proved my point in this comment lol. Byram isn't even fully developed. Dumba may already be past his prime and everyone knows the wild will have trouble keeping him due to the expansion draft. No one is going to pay a premium for him. Avs would regret this trade for the next decade.

wrong again, one injury and byrams development is screwed. they have solid defence peices already in girard and toews, they could flip the assets for a goalie and a top 6 d. you need to understand that this deal would make colorado a more complete team

Colorado does not look at this because of the value of Byram's contract, both the cost of the contract as well as the fact that he does not need to be protected in the expansion draft. Colorado has roughly $25M in cap space next year, and will commit a huge chunk of it to Grubauer, Landy, Makar, etc etc. Re: Expansion, Colorado is already worried that if they go 7-3-1, the D protected will be Girard, Makar and Johnson. Unless they can swing a deal with Seattle, they will likely lose Towes. Finally, the Av's do not desperately need an elite goaltender. They currently have one. (They could use a decent back up).

grubauer is not an elite goaltender. he has a solid team in front of him but he will not win you a cup

There is so much wrong here. Graves plays nice Byram is going to be so much better than him and Dumba and he is almost a lock to be in Seattle next year. Have you checked goalie stats recently, right now Grubauer is an easy Vezina finalist. Strum is redundant on the Avs, O’Rourke isn’t needed with Timmins, Barron and Helleson and nice window dressing by adding a 2nd and 2 thirds. Such an easy easy no, you know it because you want him.

if you flip the assets for gibson, then trade grubauer for another young top 4 d on an elc, you will have a more complete team in the sense that every area of the teams needs will be covered

I see what you’re doing and all, that’s great but literally mortgaging the future on 2 players. Instead of Guerin turning the wild into perennial cup contenders with solid cap management, you’re putting them into a position to have that window shut sooner than later.

Says you, based on what? I’m sure the likes of Binnington and all goalies who have yet to win a cup would disagree with you.

Wrong a top 4 already in place where they have Makar, Toews, Girard and Byram 3 under 22 with Timmins, Barron, Helleson, EJ and MacDonald being able to fill the bottom pairing. They are already an elite defensive team. Up front they have Newhook coming, who fills in as the future 2C, Kaut, Bowers, Ranta, Foudy, LOC to fill the bottom 6 and that doesn’t include anybody they add via draft or free agency. You’re just peeved people disagree with you and honestly you are wrong.

Dumba isn't THAT good and Grubauer is currently significantly better than Gibson. Cale Makar wasn't fully developed 2 years ago.

O Rourke, Dumba 50% and a first are certainly good assets but those other pieces are simply just quantity. Only way I'd see them trade Byram would be for an elite young forward/forward prospect
