Description
This season has been a huge disappointment so far, and with a full month of April vs COL, VGK, and MIN, it's sink or swim time. Unlike the last place team of 2019 fame, there aren't any magic buttons (new coach, new goalie, etc.) to push right now.

Here's the two ways I would see things if I was managing this team:

Option 1 = Raise it (other ACGM): If Parayko is 100% within the next week or so, I'd give this roster my support to make a hard push. Goaltending is piss-poor - .898 on the season between the two clowns - so make a move ASAP. Then if there are some statement games before the TDL, go for Hall.

Option 2 = Fold it (see below): Wait this out and get ready to sell. If Parayko can't get back up to speed, just call it for him and schedule a surgery to fix his back. Take a good look at the effort from this roster and move the pieces that you can to get some assets at the deadline. If it looks like the rest of the season is gonna be battling just to get that last spot against ARI and LAK instead of playing inspiring/statement games against of the teams they'll meet in the playoffs, the season is a bust. Below is just a sample of the moves I'm talking about, I know they're not gonna trade like 6 guys at the deadline.

Oilers have zero cap dollars, so a contract would have to go back.

Schwartz isn't worth the 2022 1st alone.

Schwartz is a good player but I’m not sure he gets Wilde AND a first. There is some decent wingers on the market that might drive the cost down. Also the Isles do not need the salary retained with Lee on LTIR.

However I think Schwartz is exactly the type of player Trotz would like to add. Plays a good 200ft game, heady player with a cup under his belt. I like it.

Schwartz is pretty good. He’s worth just as much as Hall IMO.

Gotcha, I'd say anything that expires after this yr to make the cap work would be on the table if they decide to start selling. Although tbh I really don't know what GMDA is thinking about options right now, he is in a tough spot.

Schwartz is a very good player - he's not worth risking a 2022 1st in a stacked draft. Barzal could suffer a season ending injury and the isles end up in the 5-15 range. It' not worth it. The only way the isles should be including a 2022 is for a young top 6 winger with term

I knew "stacked draft" was coming lol they're all "stacked drafts" when it's time to trade picks. Call it the 2021 1st then if you must; won't matter for the Blues if they draft like they did in 2020 just picking random names out of a hat.

I don't think the isles will trade a 1st for a rental. Its a buyers market IMO.

How about:
Schwartz+Dunn for Wilde, bellows, 2021 1st , 2022 2nd.

Not something I'd like to see personally but the value is probably reasonable. I do agree that it's a buyer's market rn and the Blues aren't gonna have much leverage specifically with Dunn at this point. Whoever trades for him is gonna win that trade.

In a normal market, I could see talks for Schwartz looking around that value. But in a pandemic and cap strapped (also real financial problems) world for most teams, I can't see St. Louis getting a 1st or a top prospect for him. Wilde could likely be had as a B prospect, but that'd likely be about it. Maybe a late pick around a 4th-6th added on as a sweetener, but you've got him overvalued here quite a bit.

I've actually thought that Bortuzzo would be a perfect fit for Carolina, and a low end pick might be what they're willing to give up because they'd risk losing him to Seattle (not that they would, but the risk is still there). So I see that as a good option and a very realistic deal for both sides.

The Montreal deal isn't too bad for value, although I'm not sure Montreal does it cause they'd very likely lose Dunn to Seattle in the off-season. Might need to take back a bit less for Dunn who's play has been up and done and will need protection.

As a Leafs fan, on paper I like the add of Sanford for the type of player he is, but there's just too much wrong that doesn't work for them. Sanford isn't really a top 6 guy that they've been looking for, and while I'd argue for you that he'd be a great fit beside Matthews and Marner and get more points, I don't think all the risks involved are worth this deal. Again, the risk of losing him to Seattle comes into play here. Along with I don't really see Engvall being made available this year. Their coaching staff and management have said they want a 3rd line as a shutdown line, and Engvall isn't a natural centre, but has provided decent value playing that role. His speed is key because he's the type of guy that can somewhat contain McDavid with it, but he's still more suited for a 4th line centre and could use some more development to be a 3C. If you were to change what you'd expect for a return, Sanford would be an interesting piece. But I don't see Toronto moving Engvall with no centre depth in the organization for the role.

Tampa deal is a meh. Don't see Tampa interested in Clifford. They already have Maroon there to provide the same role, and they just moved Volkov for cap reasons, which I can't imagine they did that just to go after Clifford. I could see them staying the course and waiting until Kucherov comes back.

Overall, not too bad logic on your part but I just think either the value is off or you haven't looked at the situation for the other team involved.

In this model, what do you think the cost for Perron would be, if there is one.

Vegas needs depth scoring, and the one team he would probably waive his NTC for is Vegas. And he is a fit here

Don’t know if a trade like that would help St. Louis with the expansion draft protections either.

Hard to give a price because I know they won't move him (leading scorer) and it's doubtful he'd accept a trade anyway- but if they were going full "fire sale" I would think he could bring back a 1st and a pretty good prospect at least. 2 yr rental and producing well above his 4m cap hit.

Makes sense and most years I would agree. But who knows with an expansion year coming was my thought
